On July 7, 2017, a group of the world's biggest global powers, known as the G20, met in Hamburg, Germany. Tens of thousands of anti-capitalist demonstrators, most of whom were peaceful, flocked to the summit; but there were days of standoffs between police and protesters, which led to parts of Hamburg looking like a war zone. Melania Trump missed at least one major event, because it was determined that due to the protests it would be unsafe for her to leave the fortified building where she stayed. At least 456 police officers were injured, and 186 protesters were arrested.

The summit itself was largely overshadowed by the hype – fueled mainly by U.S. mainstream media – around the first, face-to-face meeting between Donald Trump and Russia's Vladimir Putin. But what else happened at the event? What kinds of realignments happened among governments? Did the U.S. emerge stronger or weaker from the meetings?

To discuss the impact of the G20, our guest is Dr. Gerald Horne, Professor of History and African American Studies at the University of Houston and author of more than three dozen books.

On our weekly roundtable, we discuss the G20 summit, bringing together the worlds most powerful countries in Hamburg, Germany, and drawing hundreds of thousands of anti-globalization protesters. Of course, most of the U.S. mainstream media is focused on the Trump-Putin meeting, but beneath the surface, there is a recalculation and reorganization of global alliances, power points and world leadership. The crisis with North Korea is also key in context of the G20.

On the home front, Trump wants the voter rolls for all 50 states, but states both red and blue are pushing back. Senators, back in their home states, are facing protests from constituents who are opposed to Trumpcare.
