How can we teach biblical theology to kids? How do we share God’s truths with our children in ways that are thoughtful, beautiful, and true? A good place to start would be Irene Sun’s Taste and See. In her beautifully illustrated children’s book, Irene shares God’s goodness and love in the food he provides for his children all through the Bible.

SOLA social media manager Aaron Lee interviewed Irene about her book and how she came to write it. They also discussed how she became interested in writing biblical theology for kids, her background as a missionary’s kid, the process for writing and publishing a children’s book, and advice for parents in terms of going deep in theology with young children

“What does it mean that God is enough when it seems like I don’t have enough?” Alicia J. Akins struggled with this question during a time of great scarcity. That’s when she was invited to a friend’s dinner and she was confronted with the juxtaposition of her financial lack and the beautiful feast and friendships before her. It began her journey of studying the feasts of the Bible, and she recently published the book, Invitations to Abundance. 

We are pleased to present an interview between Alicia and SOLA Network. She is interviewed by Aaron Lee, our social media manager. He talks to her about her time living in China, the inspiration behind her book, and the one chapter that almost didn’t make it.

What are church models unique to the Asian American Church? SOLA Editorial Board member Daniel K. Eng interviewed two lead pastors who serve at “townhouse” churches. Michael Lee leads All Nations Community Church, an English-speaking congregation on the same campus as a Korean immigrant church. David D. Lee pastors Ekklesia Atlanta Christian fellowship, an English-speaking congregation that shares a campus with a Chinese immigrant church.

3 Lessons for Ministry Leaders to Guard Your Heart from Pride:

1. Fear God more than man and seek only his approval.

2. Approach God with honesty and fight against hypocrisy.

3. Ask God to move your heart and motivate your good deeds.

How does one man care for ten thousand orphans and raise millions of dollars (in today’s currency) without asking for a single donation or ever going into debt? By taking God seriously on His word in Matthew 7:7—ask and it will be given to you.

Karisa You was born in Massachusetts but grew up in Orange County and earned her Bachelor of Arts at UCLA and Juris Doctorate at USC. She teaches business and political science at California Baptist University, Concordia University Irvine, UC Riverside, and Hope International University. She also serves on the board for Tutapona, a nonprofit providing mental health services to refugees, and previously worked in legal public service, advocating for indigent clients' housing, benefits, and constitutional rights. She believes God is passionate about justice and calls His followers to defend those who cannot speak for themselves. Karisa loves storytelling, especially writing about how Jesus changes lives (karisayou.blogspot.com). She published the young-adult novel, Seeing Triple, and her “chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever” (Westminster Catechism).

Ashley Kim didn’t expect her freshman year to include winning second place in TGC’s 2022 Essay Contest for Young Adults. But her love of writing and her faith fused to create her beautiful essay “I’m a Gen Zer, and I believe the Bible is Inerrant.”
