He also serves as the Pastor of Counseling for Parkside Church Bainbridge and Green. Jonathan Holmes spoke to Aaron Lee, social media manager at SOLA Network, about how churches can support adoptees and parents of adoptees.

Kim Kira, the primary teaching elder at Lighthouse Church and SOLA Council member, led the sixth session of the AALC Conference. His exhortative message was titled “Gospel Ministry: More than Evangelism.”

In his talk, Kim Kira reminded church leaders that the gospel is not just about changing our eternal destination but changing our hearts. So he exhorted them to develop a culture of care and counseling within their churches. By doing so, church members could help one another find help and hope in Christ “as we see our sin and suffering clearly, but see the gospel clearest of all.”

SOLA Network had the privilege of speaking to Joanna Wong, a deacon and lay counselor at Center Church in Irvine, CA. She is also a supervising family law attorney at a pro bono law firm and a Certified Domestic Violence Victim Advocate. 

Joanna Wong talked to Hannah Chao, editor at SOLA Network, and Jason Chao, video editor at SOLA Network about addressing abuse in the church, particularly the Asian American Church. Churches today have made national headlines due to members experiencing spiritual abuse from church leaders. But what is spiritual abuse and what does it look like in an Asian American church context? How can churches create a culture that guards against this spiritual abuse and bring healing to those who have experienced it? 

The fifth session of the Asian American Leadership Conference (AALC) addressed these questions in a panel discussion moderated by Pastor Thomas Hwang. Thomas Hwang is the lead pastor at Grace Hill Church and a SOLA Network editorial board member. 

The speakers on the panel were Soojin Park, Joanna Wong, and Jason Min. Soojin Park is the director of Youth Ministry and CCI at Christ Central Presbyterian Church in Centreville, Virginia. Joanna Wong is a deacon and lay counselor at Center Church in Irvine, CA. She is also a supervising family law attorney at a pro bono law firm and a Certified Domestic Violence Victim Advocate. Jason Min is the Lead Pastor at Citizens LA in Downtown Los Angeles.

Harold is a happily married husband to SunHi, and devoted father to his two daughters, Taylor and Elizabeth. Harold serves as the President of SOLA Network.

He currently serves as Associate Professor of Bible Exposition and Director of the Asian-American Ministry track for the Doctor of Ministry at Talbot School of Theology in La Mirada, Calif.

He enjoys reading, music, sports (especially the UCLA Bruins), and spending time with people. He is married to his bride, Jen and has 2 wonderful sons named Adam and Zachary. He currently serves as the Teaching Pastor at New Life Vision Church in Glendale, CA. He is also the co-author along with Dr. Sheryl Silzer of Tapestry of Grace: Untangling the Cultural Complexities of Asian American Life & Ministry on Wipf & Stock.
