Owen Lee serves as the Senior Pastor of Christ Central Presbyterian Church in Centreville, VA and is a SOLA Council member. He received his BA in Rhetoric at U.C. Berkeley and his M.Div at Westminster Seminary, CA. Before his call to serve as the Senior Pastor of Christ Central in 2012, he served as the English Ministry Pastor of New Life Mission Church in Fullerton, CA from 2000 to 2002, and then as the church-planting pastor of New Life Mission Church in Burbank, CA from 2002 to 2011. He is married to Margaret, and they have 3 children together- Abby, Caleb, and Lizzy.

One of the consequences of COVID-19 has been an increase in visits to pornographic websites. Viewership has increased for several factors, including people being stuck at home and the fact that it is an outlet for those who feel isolated and lonely. 

How can Christians and the church better understand sex addiction and pornography so that we can help those who are afflicted? How can those who are struggling with this addiction get help? 

These were the topics covered in a conversation between Tim St. John, SOLA Editorial Board member and counseling pastor at Lighthouse Community Church, and Roy Kim, certified sex addiction therapist and licensed marriage and family therapist. 

Tim St. John and Roy Kim talked about how to address pornography use and how to support people who need help.

On Friday, President Donald Trump said that churches were essential and called on governors to allow them to reopen them. In addition, earlier this month, a group of California pastors announced that they would reopen their doors on May 31, whether or not they had government permission. This decision is part of a larger discussion surrounding how churches should function during the pandemic. (Editor’s Note: This interview was recorded before President Trump’s announcement, so they do not comment on his remarks.)

To discuss whether or not churches should reopen, SOLA Editorial Board member Daniel K. Eng moderated a Zoon discussion between three Californian lead pastors -- Thomas Hwang from Gospel Life Mission Church, P.J. Tibayan from Bethany Baptist Church in Bellflower, and Hanley Liu from First Chinese Baptist Church in Walnut. 

During this conversation, they talk about what it means to love their neighbors, submit to authority, and religious freedom. We hope this conversation will spark healthy discussions within your church as we weather this pandemic together.

With the rise of anti-Asian racism triggered by COVID-19, the Asian American Christian Collaborative released the “Statement on Anti-Asian Racism in the Time of COVID-19.” This statement “denounces the current rise in anti-Asian racism in the United States of America. It calls for an immediate end to the xenophobic rhetoric, hate crimes, and violence against our people and communities, and invites all Americans to join them.”

The SOLA Network supported this statement, and more than 10,000 people have signed it since it was published on March 31, 2020.

SOLA Editor Hannah Chao interviewed Pastor Raymond Chang, president of the AACC, and Dr. Michelle Reyes, vice president of AACC, both of whom were lead drafters on the statement and are committed to Biblically-rooted racial justice. Their conversation covered topics from how Asian Americans are awakening to the reality of systemic racism, how knowing history can help us to frame our conversations on race, and how churches can help speak on the sin of racism.
