As humans, we don’t always welcome interruptions. They mess with our agendas, our carefully balanced schedules, and our expectations. But could some of these interruptions be God attempting to get our attention? What if allowing ourselves to be interrupted by the needs of others were exactly the kind of divine detours Jesus was calling us to take? The announcement of Jesus’ resurrection interrupted the course of history. It was unexpected and disruptive to his first followers, and it continues to interrupt our lives today. Join us as we explore how the good news of Jesus’ resurrection changes our own trajectories, expectations, and priorities.

🤔Sermon Reflection: While we often dislike interruptions, feeling they steal our time, life is full of them. We follow a God who embraces and works through such moments. Jesus consistently welcomed interruptions; His very life was a divine interruption to expectations. The account in John 20:1-10, starting with Mary finding the empty tomb, shows how unexpected events can lead to profound change, revealing the risen Lord and commissioning His followers. Just as someone likely interrupted your life to share the gospel, God uses ordinary people to interrupt others for His purposes. What is your interruption story, and who is God inviting you to interrupt with the good news? 🙏✝️😊

In one moment he's multiplying bread to feed a whole crowd, next he's relaxing with his inner circle, and then he's telling curious elites stories about even greater banquets. These stories culminate in "the last supper" on the night before his crucifixion; a meal he invites his followers to continue eating long after his resurrection. Join us during the season of Lent, as we explore the rich imagery and symbolism of the table -- and how it speaks to our lives today.

🤔Sermon Reflection: The gospel of Luke uniquely shares the journey to Emmaus, where the resurrected Messiah walked with disciples yet remained elusive until the breaking of bread. This story reminds us that like the road to Emmaus, our own lives can have moments where God feels distant, even absent. It's natural to question God's presence when we don't have a "mountaintop" experience, feeling He doesn't hear or care. But Luke offers a profound lesson: during these times when God and Jesus feel elusive, we are sustained. How do we encounter Him then? By faithfully engaging with scripture, nurturing community, partaking in sacrament, and practicing hospitality. These are the ways Christ becomes known to us, even in the most ordinary of places. How might you intentionally cultivate these practices to better recognize Christ on your own "road to Emmaus"? 🙏🚶‍♂️🍞

🤔Sermon Reflection: When faced with problems we didn't cause, we might want to say, "It's not my mess." But on Maundy Thursday, Jesus invited everyone to His table, offering Himself despite the world's brokenness. He never said, "Not My mess," but came alongside us. No matter the difficulty, Jesus is there. We should be like Him, not repelled by the world's challenges. God invites us in, and we must invite Him. Let's thank God who never says it isn't His mess. Jesus commanded us to love each other as He loves us, which means embracing all difficulties. Following Christ helps us understand and handle life's challenges better. What are some "messes" in our world or in our personal lives that we might be tempted to ignore? How can we practically "come alongside" others who are facing difficult situations? In what ways does Jesus' invitation to the table challenge our own tendencies to distance ourselves from the problems of others? 🤔🙏🏽🌴❤️🕊️

The parable of the great banquet illustrates how easily we, like the initially invited guests preoccupied with their wealth and responsibilities, can miss God's invitation. Our busyness in this wealthy nation can distract us from what truly matters to God. Just as the overlooked were welcomed into the banquet, let us recognize the Messiah and joyfully accept His invitation to His feast, a celebration we don't want to miss. 🎉🙏❤️️

🤔Sermon Reflection: We explored the tension between scarcity and abundance, seeing how these narratives shape our outlook. The story of Jesus feeding the multitude highlights this, with the disciples' scarcity mindset contrasting sharply with Jesus' abundant provision. Scarcity can breed hoarding and distrust, while abundance calls us to share. We're reminded that God provides more than enough, urging us to consider how we distribute it. In a world of abundance, our concern shifts from having enough to sharing enough, ensuring everyone has a place at the table. Wouldn't it be transformative if every meal felt like an overflowing blessing? Are we truly living into God's abundant kingdom? How can we shift from fearing lack to celebrating and sharing God's provision? 🍞🐟🙏🏽

🤔Sermon Reflection: It's fascinating how group dynamics often reveal those who lead, those who follow, and those who seem to drift. In Luke's account, Martha's diligent service contrasts sharply with Mary's attentive listening. Martha's frustration, though understandable, exposes deeper feelings of jealousy and anger. Yet, Jesus responds with compassion, recognizing her internal struggle. He highlights that our worth isn't defined by our busyness, but by our connection to Him. Many of us grapple with feeling pulled in multiple directions, experiencing anxiety and fragmentation. The challenge lies in choosing the "better part"—a state of being that brings peace and unity rather than worry. This "better part" involves resting in Jesus, acknowledging the gift of His presence. How can we practically prioritize this in our daily lives, amidst our many commitments? What does choosing “the better part” look for you? 🕊️🙏✨

He wasn't just upset about the money changers, but the entire system that excluded and exploited the marginalized. This wasn't about personal anger, but a righteous anger on behalf of others. Are we willing to examine our own anger? Is it rooted in love and justice, or something else? Jesus’s actions teach us that true justice requires relationship and proximity. How can we move closer to those we seek justice for? Let's strive to be a community that, like Jesus, makes room for the excluded. How can we, like Jesus, express love even in the face of injustice? 🕊️🔥🙏

🤔Sermon Reflection: From its earliest days, Christianity has centered on communal gatherings around a table, a symbolic space where Jesus is recognized as the host. He intentionally shared meals with those marginalized by society, a practice considered radical in His time. He actively sought out these individuals, inviting them to follow Him, demonstrating His desire to connect with those others rejected. This highlights God’s universal love, a concept that can be challenging when we consider it extends to those we might find objectionable. Recognizing our own imperfections, we see that Jesus pursues us all, often showing particular interest in those who seem least interested in Him. Who do we exclude from our metaphorical table? Who are those Jesus is pursuing that we might overlook or criticize? Who will we choose to invite to the table? 🕊️🙏🍽️

🤔Sermon Reflection: Forgiveness is key to following Jesus, enabling peace and reconciliation with God. Our sins separate us, but forgiveness bridges that gap. True followers must forgive, especially before coming to the table. Selfishness often leads to offenses against God and others, requiring forgiveness. God's forgiveness involves: recognizing our sins, seeking His forgiveness, acknowledging our wrongs against others, and forgiving those who wrong us, even if they don't ask. Offer any pain to Jesus. Who do you need to forgive? Who do you need to seek forgiveness from? 🙏❤️🕊️
