Joel brings us squarely to the end times as we get a preview of the judgment of nations described by Jesus in Matthew 25. That this judgment is a real event should cause us to sound the trumpet of repentance in our own lives as we warn others of the judgment to come.
If death is the enemy no one can escape, what happens when Jesus shows up at the funeral?
Everyone else ran. Shammah stayed. What will you do when the enemy shows up in your field?
God calls His people to repent in sincerity. Outward shows of remorse are often good and sometimes necessary, but if these do not stem from a changed heart, they are merely performances. God calls the people to rend their hearts and return. The promise is that God, in His grace, will restore the years that had been lost. Join us as we examine these verses in Joel and draw attention to the overwhelming goodness of God!
Hezekiah faced an enemy he couldn’t defeat and a crisis he couldn’t control — and what he did next shows us whether our prayer life is powerful… or powerless.
The Day of the Lord will be terrible. No one will be able to abide it. Joel was referencing a horrible locust invasion in the present to point out the very real judgments of God that were coming. His prophecy looks to the near future and beyond, culminating in the return of Christ to judge the nations. In light of this, the call is to sound the alarm. God's judgment won't be stopped, but He has provided a way of personal escape through Jesus Christ.
A new way of living means showing mercy instead of judgment, humility instead of arrogance, integrity instead of hypocrisy, and obedience instead of empty words—listen now as we go from a new way of thinking to a new way of living.
What if God’s correction isn’t rejection at all, but the very thing that secures your identity in Him? Lean in and listen now.
There are times of national distress that call for national repentance. Joel calls the priests and the people to fast, lament, and turn to God. There are times in our own lives when the proper response is fasting and crying out to God. The question for each of us is whether or not we will turn to Him.
