Habakkuk 2:4 is one of the most important verses in all of Scripture. The pride that swells in our hearts always leads to death because the proud person cannot humbly accept God's grace. Regardless of other identifiers in our lives, our eternal destiny hangs on this identity. Thankfully, Paul outlines that we can move from being in bondage to wickedness to being freed through Christ. A relationship with Jesus is the only way to cure your most important identity crisis!

In response to Habakkuk's questions, God reveals that He is actively working. This is true even when His work is difficult to understand—including using the wicked Babylonians to discipline His own people. How can we make sense of God's surprising work? When life doesn’t make sense, we can still be confident that God sees with an eternal perspective, His purposes cannot be changed, and even His correction ultimately serves His glory and the good of His people.

We know what it means to have friends—but do we really understand what it means for Jesus to call us His friends? This message takes a familiar idea and turns it upside down, revealing just how shocking it is that the One who created us, knows us completely, and died for us would say, I have called you friends.
