As one of the best soldiers that have ever put on the uniform, Pedro had to face the reality that every mission could be his last. Staying ready is essential, whether you are in a battle or waiting for one.

Imagine waking up and going to work, knowing that you may not come home that day because you die as a result of what you do for a living. The men and women who serve in our communities through police, fire and rescue, and EMS live that reality out every day for weeks, months and years on end. But what happens when they lose their life in the line of duty for the family they leave behind? On this week’s show, Kurt and Chad talk with retired police sergeant Eric Johnson on the organization Supporting Heroes. An organization that came together out of tragedy.

The mission statement for Supporting Heroes: “Our mission is to honor the service and sacrifice of public safety heroes who give their lives in the line of duty – by caring for the loved ones they leave behind.”

The Goals of Supporting Heros:

    1.    Create a vehicle by which citizens could show their appreciation for the daily service and sacrifices of first responders.

    2.    Honor those in the police, fire, and EMS services who make the ultimate sacrifice.

    3.    Assure those left behind that their loved ones will never be forgotten and that they, the survivors, will always be cared for.

On the show, Eric talks about when he knew he wanted to be a police officer, the struggles that those in public safety serve have, as well as the families of those who pass away in the line of duty. (Also on being one of the tallest police officers in all of the United States of America).

Like father, like son. Imagine you’re a 5 year old boy and your mother is being beaten by her boyfriend. You are helpless and scared. Someone needs to come and help. Suddenly there’s a knock on the door. There’s a man in uniform, gun on his hip, who is here to take away the man who is hurting your mom. This is the moment you know what you want to be when you grow up. On this weeks special Father’s Day show, Kurt and Chad welcome retired police officer and Army veteran Clark Arnold who talks about his father journey, from a childhood without a father figure, to finding out at 55 that his biological dad isn’t his biological dad, and the moment you drive multiple states away to knock on your fathers door, only to be told you’ve “wasted your time”.

But even though your earthly father has failed you, you’re heavenly Father has a plan to bring men into your life to not only be the father figure you always wanted, but also introduce you to Him.

This week’s guest is former sportscaster Garry Gupton. At one time he had what most men would consider a dream job - covering local and national sports on a popular TV station. But as he explains to Kurt and Chad, "I didn't have my dream job - my dream job had me." In what seemed like the worst day of his professional career, Garry was asked to leave the company. What do you do when the carpet gets pulled out from underneath you? Garry has learned that what feels like the darkest of days can actually be the beginning of incredible blessing, whether it’s personally or professionally.
