#SolidarityForGBV. South Africa ranks amongst the worst in the world when it comes to Gender-based Violence (GBV) and rape statistics, and the reported cases do not even account for the full picture.
From the introduction of a Sexual Offenders’ Registry, to a victim-centered approach to prosecutions, as well as harsher sentences and stricter bail conditions against perpetrators of Gender-Based Violence, the three new Amendment Bills recently announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa, have been hailed as ‘a step in the right direction’ for a country that finds itself in the chokehold of GBVF.
