[Solo Sesh] Not Everyone Has to Like You

Listen Later

Do you take it personally when someone doesn't like you? Do you find yourself annoyed by people who remind you too much of yourself?

On Chrystal’s recent Italy retreat, she had an incredible time with the clients who accompanied her. However, one woman didn’t seem to enjoy Chrystal’s presence at all. Instead of being offended by this woman’s negative behavior, Chrystal recognized that happy and healed people do not treat others poorly. By reminding her audience to look inward when someone triggers you, she encourages us to realize that this disdain could have nothing to do with the other person, but entirely with ourselves.

Tune into this week’s episode of Self-Love for Breakfast for a healthy conversation on accepting when someone doesn’t like you. Learn more about the two main reasons for disliking someone, why you shouldn’t water yourself down for others, and how lashing out is a symptom of our deep-rooted insecurities.

Quotes

•  “If everyone liked me, I don't think I would be me. I think I'd be some weird watered-down version of myself.” (7:46 - 7:53)

•  “Even when a person is outright lashing out at you, it's not really about you.” (13:51 - 13:56)

•  “It's not your fault for what happened to you. But it's your responsibility to move forward and take responsibility for your actions and behavior.” (21:23 - 21:40)

•  “It's so cool not to give a shit when someone doesn't like you.” (26:40 - 26:43)

•  “In our human interactions, we can stand to have more compassion. We can stand to have more love. And we can also stand to turn inward and ask ourselves, “Where's my opportunity for growth here?” (31:07 - 31:19)
