Yesterday was my birthday.
Earlier this week, I also had the opportunity to give a speech that caused me to pause and reflect deeply on who I was when I was born… and who I am now.
This episode is a peaceful reflection on:
• Growing up in the projects
• Being born into low-income housing
• Teen pregnancy at nineteen
• The statistics surrounding poverty and upward mobility
• The quiet belief that we must prove our worth
• Discovering identity as a child of God
• Living aligned with Acts 20:24
The Statistics Discussed
• 40–45% of children born into the bottom 20% of income earners remain there as adults
• Only 7–10% rise from the bottom 20% to the top 20%
• Teen pregnancy increases financial hardship risks
But statistics are not destiny.
Your beginning does not determine your ending.
The Anchor Scripture
Acts 20:24 (NIV)
“My only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me.”
This verse reframed everything.
It reminded me that life is not about proving.
It’s about finishing the assignment.
