This is the fourth in a fresh sequence of conversations I’ve been having with various friends within the roleplaying games community. This episode continues my quest to find the game I really want to play, this time through re-investigating the topic of solo roleplaying.
My guest, Simon Williams, is a British artist and illustrator as well as being the creator of the Legend of The Bones podcast, a hybrid Solo Old School Dungeons and Dragons actual play and dark fantasy audio drama. His evocative illustrations are inspired by classic roleplaying games like Fighting Fantasy and classic works of fiction such as The Lord of The Rings. His podcast is an amazing work of art, inspired by the pioneering Tale of The Manticore podcast whose creator, Jon, wrote and performed the theme music for this show. Simon’s Legend of the Bones has become a must-listen for me because his descriptions and characters are incredibly believable. And on top of all of this creativity, Simon is a husband and father, finding time for family and a very demanding job too. I hopped online to find out how he manages to enjoy an intense solo roleplaying experience so that I can move in this direction too.
Big thanks to Simon for coming back to the show - it truly was an eye-opening and key conversation for me. I hope you’ll find it useful too.
