Cherie Matthews grew up solving problems. From a young age her father taught her to find and create solutions to the challenges she encountered, which she carried into her professional career as a computer engineer at IBM. When Cherie was 40, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and underwent double mastectomy surgery. Her difficult experience in surgical recovery posed a new challenge for her to solve, which she did by creating the “healincomfort” shirt, a new product she designed to help women heal more comfortably after surgery in their battle against cancer.
