Recuerdo haber escuchado a mi padre contar que el intérprete original de esta canción, el gran Javier Solís, era muy amigo de uno de mis actores mexicanos favoritos, el ya fallecido Pedro Infante. Según la historia que me narró, ambos tenían una peculiar apuesta sobre quién moriría primero. Mi padre me contó que Pedro Infante, antes de fallecer, le había dicho a Javier Solís: "Si yo muero primero, tendrás que venir a cantar a mi funeral". Y así lo hizo. Fue precisamente esta emotiva actuación la que ayudó a descubrir su extraordinario talento al público masivo, proyectando su fabulosa voz hacia la fama internacional.

I remember my father telling me that the original performer of this song, the great Javier Solís, was close friends with one of my favorite Mexican actors, the late Pedro Infante. According to the story he told me, they had a peculiar bet about who would die first. My father recounted that Pedro Infante, before passing away, had told Javier Solís: "If I die first, you'll have to come sing at my funeral." And so he did. Sombras nada más es una fantástica canción que ha sido interpretada por numerosos artistas, pero yo la conocí a través de la inconfundible voz del señor Javier Solís. Sus magistrales cambios tonales dentro de la modulación que acompaña esta pieza lograron despertar en mí, cuando era niño, una profunda curiosidad por entender qué ocurría melódicamente. Esta fascinación me impulsó a ganar mayor destreza con la guitarra, motivándome a aprender e interpretar cada vez más canciones.

Sombras nada más (Only Shadows) is a fantastic song that has been performed by numerous artists, but I came to know it through the unmistakable voice of Mr. Javier Solís. His masterful tonal shifts within the modulation accompanying this piece sparked in me, as a child, a deep curiosity to understand what was happening melodically. This fascination drove me to develop greater skill with the guitar, motivating me to learn and perform more and more songs.
