On this episode of "The Something in the Wild Podcast" I read strait from the book " The Journal of a Trapper" by Osborne Russell. This book is the most accurate and detailed account of the mountain man era and gives detailed descriptions of all animals he encountered on his journey. It is quite fascinating and I hope you enjoy the listen!

Pennsylvania’s state forests are a treasure trove of natural beauty and history, offering endless opportunities for outdoor recreation. But have you ever wondered how these forests came to be? In this episode of the Something in the Wild Podcast, I dive deep into the fascinating history of Pennsylvania’s state forests. From William Penn’s early conservation efforts to the devastating deforestation of the 19th century and the pivotal moments that shaped the forest system we cherish today, this episode uncovers it all.
In this episode, I will be discussing my most recent trip to chase pheasants with my dogs and how it is the most fun anyone could have while hunting. I will then shift to my concerns about the new appointment for the Department of the Interior, Doug Burgum. Regardless of political affiliation us as sportsmen and women must keep our elected officials in check.

Talking points to bring up:
o Utah Public land belongs to all americanso Every American holds an equal claim to our nation’s public lands and waters, but it’s our responsibility to protect this shared heritage
o History has proven that state-managed lands are often sold off or leased to private interests.
o Federal land management agencies have successfully stewarded these lands for over a century, balancing conservation, recreation, and resource development under a multiple-use mandate. There’s no reason to fix what isn’t broken
o Transferring public lands to state ownership ignores the economic realities of managing these lands, such as costs associated with wildfire and range fire prevention, road maintenance, and other infrastructure. These costs threaten to bankrupt states, forcing them to eventually sell our public lands to cover the costs
If you are a Utah resident, reach out to your district representatives in the legislature
Next we talk about Louisiana's no-fishing buffer that is preventing fish spills. Then we move to Oregon where the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation is doing the peoples work and adding new public land. And lastly, we talk about Florida's right to hunt and fish and why it is so important for gun owners and sportsman and woman to get out there and vote!
