In today’s episode, we speak with journalist, presenter, and author Rachel Johnson about a condition she has never publicly shared before: Trichotillomania - often referred to as TTM, “trich,” or simply “pulling.”

One of the questions Rachel reflects on is whether this condition is hereditary - given that both her mother and one of her children have also experienced it - or whether it may be learned through observation and environment. Trichotillomania is often grouped within the spectrum of obsessive-compulsive related disorders, though people develop it for a variety of complex reasons.

It’s a condition I knew very little about before this conversation, and one I found genuinely fascinating to explore. What intrigued me most, however, was Rachel’s long-standing and very public relationship with her hair. She has written about it multiple times and is, in many ways, known for it. That naturally raised questions for me about the subconscious and often complicated relationship she - and perhaps all of us - have with our hair.

Hair plays a powerful role in how we see ourselves. It’s closely tied to identity, image, personality, and can be a deeply visual marker of ageing, health, and illness.

We also touch briefly on Rachel’s upbringing, and whether that may - or may not - have influenced her experience of the condition.

In today’s episode, we’re joined by fellow millennial and all-round GREAT human - comedian, presenter, writer and radio host, TOM LUCY.

Tom started performing stand-up at just sixteen and quickly rose through the comedy circuit to become one of the youngest professional comedians in the world. Since then, he’s performed across the UK and internationally - from the Middle East to Europe, with select shows in New York and Los Angeles.

You may recognise him from Unforgivable (Dave), Stand Up For Live Comedy (BBC1), Roast Battle (Comedy Central), Dating No Filter (Sky1), and Comedy Central Live. He’s toured his own headline shows, supported Jack Whitehall, Michael McIntyre and Aziz Ansari, and delivered three sell-out Edinburgh Festival runs.

Beyond the stage, Tom created and wrote the CKTV series for Candy Kittens (15 million views in its first year), has written for the BRIT Awards, won Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year and The Sun’s Best New Comedian, and is now a regular host on Hits Radio.

But - as ever - we’re not here for the accolades.

We’re here for what lies beneath.

I met Tom in New York in March 2025. We connected instantly - a bond Tom gives an interesting explanation for during the episode. And having always wanted to interview a comedian, I carpe diem’d this new-found friendship. My real intrigue lay in exploring the relationship between comedy, identity, and the need to make people laugh…and where it all, really, comes from. 

So we began there…and end up somewhere much deeper.

We talk about Tom’s relationship to alcohol, drugs, the need for dopamine, validation, and the pull toward short-term pleasure over the bigger picture. About the blurred line between performing and self-worth. And about how, for Tom, becoming a comedian wasn’t entirely a choice. It never is. 

What makes this conversation particularly special (I think) is that Tom is working it out in real time - as we talk, and as you listen.Tom, thank you for being so honest, vulnerable, and (of course) very funny.

In today’s episode, we’re joined by prolific screenwriter and author Hanif Kureishi and his son, fellow writer Carlo Kureishi.

Many of you will already know Hanif for his formidable career as a novelist, playwright, and screenwriter, with landmark works including the Oscar-nominated screenplay My Beautiful Laundrette and the acclaimed novel The Buddha of Suburbia, followed by books and films such as Intimacy and Venus. His contributions to British culture have earned him a CBE and an archive at the British Library.

In 2022, Hanif’s life came to a devastating halt. A badly landed fall on Boxing Day left him paralysed from the neck down. During his long and painful recovery, he began writing about his experience - but unable to use his hands, he dictated his thoughts instead: first to his partner Isabella, and later to his sons Sachin, Kier, and Carlo. These reflections became his powerful memoir, Shattered.

After Hanif’s eventual return home, he and Carlo continued this father-and-son collaboration, evolving into a compelling writing partnership and becoming one of Substack’s standout voices.

What drew me to invite them both on wasn’t only an interview I’d heard between Hanif and Cathy Newman on Channel 4 shortly after his return home, but also this unprecedented shift in a father-and-son relationship - one that is not just deeply personal, but profoundly professional. Sparked by Hanif’s shocking accident, their partnership speaks to a stark and inspiring triumph in the face of adversity, while never glossing over the brutal reality of living in a body that no longer does what you want it to.

It was a huge privilege to have them both on, with heartfelt thanks to our generous hosts at Le Petit Citron.

Welcome to the very first episode of S.I.N.S.

An episode of such significance, there was only one way to begin.

In this episode, Angharad speaks with Anna Chancellor.

An actress. An industry icon. And now, a mother living through the unimaginable loss of her daughter.

Many of you will have first met Anna as 'Duckface' in Four Weddings and a Funeral, or from The Hour, Downton Abbey, The Crown, My Lady Jane, and Outrageous - to name but a few. But this conversation isn’t about Anna's career - it’s about her grief, her love, and what remains after her life was irrevocably changed.

Angharad first met Anna’s daughter, Poppy, in 2020 when she appeared on her podcast Daddy Issues. They bonded instantly. Angharad knew she had found a friendship for life. But just three short years later, Poppy died from acute myeloid leukaemia. She was 36.

In this episode, Anna and Angharad discuss the incomprehensible loss of a child, our relationship with death, the afterlife, and the mission that now guides Anna’s life. Above all, they talk about Poppy - and the profound legacy she continues to leave behind.
