“I will never let a circumstance or a situation define my life.”
(Inky Johnson[1])
How does a self-described Mexican kid with a funny name become a man doing work he loves—doctor, podcaster, medical researcher—while helping people all over the world find true health? He does it by transforming his life!
I’m fascinated by transformation. So much so that it’s the core theme of my second book, Turning Inspiration Into Action, and also the thread that weaves together all our Happy Living content. In the book, I dedicate an entire chapter to exploring two distinct pathways people often find themselves on when they’re creating big transformations within themselves: inspiration and devastation.
As you’ll hear in this incredible interview, both pathways have played important roles in the life of Dr. Guillermo Ruiz. You’ll also discover how, as Guillermo puts it, he has transformed his life by standing on the shoulders of giants.
Guillermo Ruiz gets inspired by his heroes, like Alexander Hamilton—the bastard, orphan, son of a whore and a Scotsman, whose life began in poverty, but who grew into a hero and a scholar and is remembered as the ten-dollar founding father.[2] Heroes like Hamilton give Guillermo hope.
He also gets inspired by chances to connect with his heroes in real life. On the podcast, Guillermo shares how introducing himself to heroes like Robb Wolf and Chris Kresser has given him confidence and how interviewing heroes on his podcast, 30/30 Health, gives him knowledge. Standing of the shoulders of his heroes like Dr. Alan Christianson, Art De Vany, Darryl Edwards, Keith Norris, and many others gives Guillermo power.
He uses all that power to overcome self-doubt and what he calls the “imposter syndrome” so that he can become the hero he was meant to be… helping people all around the world discover the true health that resides within their bodies.
I am excited for you, my dear listener, to meet the very inspiring Dr. Guillermo Ruiz…enjoy the show!
