Charles Darwin, the father of the theory of evolution, recognized that there was at least one gaping “hole” in his theory. Considering the absence of any evidence of speech in the animal kingdom, Darwin’s concepts of gradual adaptation, the survival of the fittest, etc. appeared to fall short when it came to explaining the phenomenon of human speech and language.
