Dein Golf Podcast
Today, Bernd meets one of his former employees. Rene was often his caddie and a long-time companion on various tours. He was even on the bag during Bernd’s greatest success, the Porsche European Open 2019.
Originally, the Dutchman owned a few snack stands at the Johan Cruijff Stadium in Amsterdam – but life as a caddie seemed like the better solution to him. Rene shares powerful stories about his life as a caddie, what it was like on the LIV Tour, and why everything currently feels like it’s in transition.
“I often caddied twice a day.”
Many people probably don’t even know that this is possible. At least on the level of the Hotelplanner Tour, it worked. Caddying for Player A in the morning and for Player B in the afternoon.
“On the LIV Tour, caddies are treated and paid completely differently.”
The caddie worlds couldn’t be more different. On the LIV Tour, all expenses such as flights and hotel rooms are covered.
“Even your meals and your beer in the evening are paid for.”
So basically, you can leave your wallet at home – LIV pays for everything.
“You arrive at the airport and a car is waiting for you to take you to the golf course or the hotel. That’s really great. But apart from that, the people involved in the LIV Tour felt a bit like a family, because everyone was against LIV. That naturally brought us closer together.”
