  • Episode 19: Dr. Renee Lemus Elisaldez

Welcome to the next episode of Somos Padres. In this episode Yesenia visits Dr. Renee Lemus Elisaldez to sit down and have a conversation that she has been longing to have. Dr. Lemus Elisaldez is a college professor in the Los Angeles area in the field of Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies. She is also a certified yoga teacher specializing in prenatal & postnatal yoga and body positive yoga but today the conversation was all about motherhood. Dr. Lemus Elisaldez takes us along as she shares how an assignment on motherhood for her college students turned into an assignment for herself. This first step led her down a path that helped her to rethink her own notions of motherhood and heal some old resentments she was carrying. This is a wonderful episode to listen to if you have never thought about motherhood from a historical perspective and how history has had its direct impact on the generational patterns embedded within our families and the way in which we were mothered.

  • Episode 18: Meet Nancy & Nelson (Part 2)

Welcome back for the second half of the conversation with a Nancy and Nelson.  In this episode Nelson shares how he was able to pull back his anger which included going to couples therapy.  Nelson shares that couples therapy opened up a space for him to do some deeper reflection about where his anger was coming from and they also picked up a few tools to help them navigate each other’s moods.  Nancy share more about her personal development story including how the Law of Attraction has influenced the way in which she lives her life.  She also gives us tips for how to get started on our own personal development journey.  Nancy and Nelson make it clear that they do not just talk the talk, they walk the walk in front of their kids and in doing so they have created a safe space for their kids to embrace their own personal development.  It was an honor to spend time with Nancy and Nelson and to count them among our tribe.  You do not want to miss the second half of the conversation.  If you have not listened to the first half, we definitely recommend it to put the pieces of the puzzle together, it is such a great success story.

Barbara has been learning about the Enneagram for almost 18 years after being recruited by a co-worker to take the Enneagram test as part of a research study. Barbara provides a general understanding of the Enneagram, its origins and briefly goes over the nine Enneagram types. Barbara also shares some of the deeper work that she has done on herself as a result of learning about the Enneagram and how she uses the knowledge in her every day relationships.
Paulo and Yesenia also recently took the Enneagram test and Barbara talks to them about their Enneagram type and what they should keep in mind based on their types. If you are looking for a way of understanding yourself and the people in your life a little better, then this introduction to the Enneagram may be helpful!
