Today we continue our sermon series on the Song of Songs. This Song gives us a wonderful picture of many different experiences that we, the church which is the bride of Christ, have with Him as our husband to which we are betrothed. Last week, we saw how He visits us so that our relationship with Him blossoms with fresh new growth like a season of spring after the winter. Today we are going see something opposite to that—a season of night when we seek Him and cannot find Him.

The Song of Songs has parts in it that speak about all sorts of different aspects of our relationship with Christ our husband. This week addresses the season of spring in our relationship with Him. It speaks of those times when He comes to us to bring forth fresh new life in our relationship with Him.

This morning we will continue our sermon series in the Song of Solomon. Preaching from this book has been one of the most delightful experiences of my life. In the first verse, the Holy Spirit has revealed to us that this book is the Song of Songs. It is superior to all the other songs in the Bible and certainly to any that are outside. Here we have revealed to us the love of Christ for His church and the love of the church for Him, presented to us in an allegorical way.

Our Lord is here proclaiming His glorious beauty. Think of it! He is the brightness of the Father's glory. His beauty when here in flesh was righteousness and faithfulness, grace and truth. He is the only One who was wholly without sin. I say then, let His beauty fill and delight your soul.

Today we will continue our sermon series in the Song of Solomon. What a delightful Song this is. Truly it is, as it says in verse 1, The Song of Songs. It speaks of the love that is shared between Christ and the church. Throughout the Bible, Christ speaks of Himself as the husband and the church as His Bride.

Today, we will continue in our sermon series on the Song of Solomon. As God's people, how we need the encouragement that comes from this book at this difficult time when we are under God's hand of affliction. Like Daniel in similar circumstances, we need to know that as God's elect in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, we are greatly loved by the Lord.

This is the Song of Songs. It speaks beautifully of the love between Christ and His Church. I think the church in our day desperately needs this song to sing in their hearts. We have lost our first love. We do not see His great love for us.

We need a song. It seems that right about now, the whole church needs a song. We have been dragging along in our devotion and service to God. We have been irritated and annoyed by many things. But we don't as much need calls to repent just now—but rather the setting forth of the gracious relationship that God sustains with His people. I think the entire church needs this, and I think the reformed church especially needs this and probably has for a while. We need a song—an excellent song—about love… about beautiful love. Not about the duty of love, but about being loved and about the love that we already have in us by grace but don't always recognise.
