Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is 30 (thirty). Leon, Karl, Tony, guest Jamie Smith (Principal Game Designer at Sumo Digital) and community correspondents Spin Dash through both 8 and 16-bit versions of the first Sonic sequel. SEGA's US-based Technical Institute took the reins on the Mega Drive/Genesis, with Team Aspect following up Team Ancient's work on the Master System and Game Gear. As with the original, we got two distinct titles, each worthy of analysis and nostalgic reflection.

The Sausage Factory is an interview-based podcast that lifts the lid on the makers of videogames. It examines the way in which games are made by asking the very people who create them, though the questions asked aren't just about game design, they also cover how developers made their start and what inspires them as creators.



Split into two halves, the first segment delves into what makes the developers tick by asking about how they started, what and who inspires them and what games they are currently playing, whereas the second part of the show covers the game that they are currently working on and the thought processes behind its development. So, if you really want to hear about a game's gestation in full and frank detail then you have found the right podcast.

Four years since we covered Super Mario Odyssey, and 35 years after its release, it's time for Super Mario Land to get the Cane and Rinse podcast treatment. Leon, Chris Worthington, James and Leah raid the cupboards in search of enough batteries to beat the platforming plumber's first outing. Which isn't many batteries. Because the game is really short. As usual we also get memories and opinions shared by a number of the game's 18 million plus players as we await Super Mario Land's arrival on the Nintendo Switch.
