I’m Matt Carlins and this is JUST Pro Wrestling News for Friday, September 3, 2021.

Shannon Spruill - better known to pro wrestling fans as Daffney - has died.

Daffney made her debut with WCW in 1999, and won the company’s Cruiserweight Championship the following year. She later wrestled for TNA and various independent promotions.

Injuries shortened Daffney’s in-ring career. Her last match was over a decade ago, though she continued to make appearances for different companies over the years that followed.

Her death was announced on Thursday.

Daffney - Shannon Spruill - was 46.

(STINGER: WWE)

WWE is promoting a HUGE match for tonight’s SmackDown. Roman Reigns defending the Universal Championship against Finn Balor.

On Thursday’s NXT UK…

Teoman beat Nathan Frazer in a first round match in the Heritage Cup #1 Contender Tournament. A timely distraction by Rohan Raja helped Teoman get the deciding pinfall in the fifth round.

Also on the show, Emilia McKenzie pinned Amale with a rollup.

The advertised match between Blair Davenport and Nina Samuels never happened. Davenport attacked Samuels during her entrance. That drew out Sid Scala...and Davenport laid him out too. Scala was later seen sporting a neck brace.

It was announced during the show that Aoife Valkyrie suffered a knee injury during her match last week...and will be out indefinitely.

(STINGER: AEW)

Tonight’s AEW Rampage is the last stop before Sunday’s All Out pay per view.

Darby Allin faces Daniel Garcia in the main event. CM Punk will be on commentary during that match.

Plus, Malakai Black vs. Lee Johnson…

Kris Statlander in a 2-on-1 Match against Jamie Hayter & Rebel…

And we’ll hear from the TNT Champion Miro.

Riho has been added to the Women’s Casino Battle Royale at All Out. That leaves us with only ONE unannounced entrant for the match.

During a media call on Thursday, Tony Khan confirmed that most tapings of AEW Dark will be moving to Universal Studios in Orlando.

Khan also said he’s planning to do international touring next year...specifically in the United Kingdom...and also looking to do shows in the western half of the United States, including bringing the Double Or Nothing pay per view back to Las Vegas.

(STINGER: ROH)

The semifinals in Ring Of Honor’s women’s title tournament are on this weekend’s ROH TV.

It’s Angelina Love vs. Rok-C...and Miranda Alize vs. Trish Adora. The winners will face off for the gold at the Death Before Dishonor pay per view.

Also on this weekend’s show, Shane Taylor Promotions vs. La Faccion Ingobernable in an 8-Man Tag Team main event.

(STINGER: New Japan)

Tonight’s New Japan Strong has - and I can’t stress this enough - Josh Alexander vs. Daniel Garcia in the main event.

Plus, TJP vs. Rey Horus...and Hikuleo vs. Matt Morris, who’s better known these days as Matthew Rehwoldt.

Back in Japan, New Japan is running back-to-back days at the MetLife Dome in Saitama this weekend.

Saturday’s show has Hiroshi Tanahashi defending the IWGP United States Championship against Kota Ibushi in the main event.

Kazuchika Okada goes up against Jeff Cobb.

Chase Owens defends the 2021 KOPW Trophy against Toru Yano in an “I Quit” Match.

Roppongi 3K explodes...as SHO and YOH clash one-on-one.

Plus, IWGP Jr. Champ Robbie Eagles & Tiger Mask vs. Hiromu Takahashi & BUSHI…

AND a special Stardom tag match: Momo Watanabe & Saya Kamitani vs. Maika & Lady C.

Start time is 3:30AM Eastern on Saturday.

(STINGER: Impact)

Impact Wrestling’s X-Division Champion Josh Alexander will defend his title at Victory Road...against Chris Sabin.

Sabin challenged Alexander on last night’s Impact...right after Alexander had beaten Dave Crist to retain his X-Division Title. Crist had answered an open challenge for a title match.

Last night’s main event saw Ace Austin beat Tommy Dreamer. A distraction by Madman Fulton allowed Austin to hit The Fold and get the pin...and that keeps Austin’s title shot at Victory Road against Impact World Champ Christian Cage a one-on-one match.

This update is brought to you by the Wrestling Mayhem Show. Check out the new episode with special guest Daniel Eads right now wherever you get your podcasts.

(STINGER: AEW).

The 100th episode of AEW Dynamite is at the Now Arena outside Chicago tonight. It’s the first of three straight AEW shows at that venue, culminating in Sunday’s All Out pay per view.

A new match was just added to tonight’s card: Penelope Ford vs. Tay Conti.

Also tonight, Cash Wheeler returns for the first time since his gruesome arm injury..as FTR take on Santana & Ortiz.

Plus, The Young Bucks and the Good Brothers vs. the Lucha Brothers and Jurassic Express...

Brian Cage vs. Powerhouse Hobbs…

Orange Cassidy vs. Jack Evans…

AND CM Punk will appear LIVE.

Kiera Hogan has been added to the Women’s Casino Battle Royale at All Out.

On last night’s Dark…

Joey Janela beat Robert Anthony. After the match, a mystery woman ran into the ring and POWERBOMBED Anthony. She left with Janela. Her name wasn’t mentioned on air, but we now know she is professional bodybuilder Kayla Rossi, who’s apparently only a few months into her training for pro wrestling.

Also last night, QT Marshall pinned Evil Uno with a Diamond Cutter...and Pac submitted Matt Sydal with The Brutalizer in the main event.

(STINGER: WWE)

Sarray scored a countout win over Mandy Rose on last night’s NXT. I’ll explain. Sarray hit Rose in the face with her signature low dropkick. That sent Rose to the outside, but instead of getting back into the ring, Rose’s pals at ringside - Gigi Dolin and Jayce Jane - covered Rose’s face with a towel and they all rushed backstage.

Later, Dolin and Jane laid out Sarray backstage.

LA Knight pinned Johnny Gargano with his headlock DDT after Gargano got distracted by InDex antics at ringside.

Tommaso Ciampa pinned Ridge Holland with Willow’s Bell in last night’s main event. Pete Dunne tried to jump Ciampa after the match, but MSK were there to make the save.

MSK will defend the NXT Tag Titles against Dunne’s cohorts Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch on next week’s show.

Roderick Strong beat Ikemen Jiro. Also, Strong’s Diamond Mine faction added a couple members - Brutus & Julius Creed - real-life brothers Drew & Jacob Kasper, who both have strong amateur wrestling backgrounds.

NXT Women’s Champ Raquel Gonzalez beat Jessi Kamea in a non-title match.

Kyle O’Reilly submitted Duke Hudson with a heel hook.

Imperium’s Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner beat Drake Maverick & Grayson Waller.

Also announced for next week’s NXT, Zoey Stark & Io Shirai will defend their women’s tag tiles against Kayden Carter & Kacy Catanzaro.

Asuka posted a picture of herself on social media Tuesday...showing herself now sporting a brace or cast on her left arm. Asuka hasn’t wrestled a match since the Money In The Bank pay per view.

(STINGER: ROH)

Former Ring Of Honor World Champion Rush is recovering from surgery. The exact nature of the procedure is not clear. However, we do know Rush suffered a knee injury at last month’s Glory By Honor shows. His family is promising to share more information at a press conference NEXT Thursday.

On this past weekend’s ROH TV...Angelina Love found a way to get past Max The Impaler. Love beat her via disqualification to advance in the ROH women’s title tournament.

Trish Adora pinned Allysin Kay to advance in the tournament.

Also on the show, TV Champ Dragon Lee pinned Eli Isom to retain the title.

An upset on last night’s NWA Powerrr! Kenzie Paige used a sunset flip to pin Chelsea Greene.

The NWA’s next pay per view will be Hard Times 2 on December 4th.

The wrath of Hurricane Ida led to WWE postponing a SmackDown show at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. The SmackDown on October 1st will now be held at the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore.

The Smoothie King Center’s primary tenants, the NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans, announced Monday that the arena had "minor exterior damage" from Ida...and “will be prepared to host games for the upcoming season without issue”. The Pelicans’ only home preseason game is scheduled for October 6th.

Tonight’s NXT has Johnny Gargano vs. LA Knight...Tommaso Ciampa vs. Ridge Holland...Kyle O’Reilly vs. Duke Hudson...and Roderick Strong vs. Ikemen Jiro.

On last night’s Raw…

Nia Jax pinned the Raw Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair...in a match that frankly got a little ugly at one point.

Earlier in the show, Jax laid out Rhea Ripley...after Ripley had beaten Shayna Baszler.

The United States Champion Damian Priest held an open challenge...which led to a 3-Way against Sheamus and Drew McIntyre. Priest prevailed...pinning McIntyre with The Reckoning.

The Raw Tag Team Champs Randy Orton & Riddle beat WWE Champ Bobby Lashley & MVP to retain their titles. Riddle pinned MVP with the Floating Bro. After the match, Lashley speared Riddle, but Orton retaliated with an RKO.

Also last night, Omos pinned John Morrison.

AJ Styles submitted Xavier Woods with the Calf Crusher.

The Viking Raiders beat Jinder Mahal & Veer. Mahal took the pin.

Plus, Karrion Kross submitted Humberto Carrillo with the Kross Jacket.

Three matches promoted during last week’s Raw did NOT happen on last night’s show.

An interview with Goldberg was shown on last night’s Raw, where he said he needs knee surgery following his loss to Bobby Lashley at SummerSlam. But Goldberg also said he’s coming after Lashley.

WWE formally introduced a new class of Performance Center recruits on Monday. They include Joseph Fatu, the younger brother of Jimmy & Jey Uso - all sons of WWE Hall Of Famer Rikishi... Bobby Steveson, the brother of Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson... Ben Buchanan, the son of former WWE Tag Team Champ Bull Buchanan...and Joshua Dawkins, the nephew of former NBA player Darryl Dawkins.

(STINGER: AEW)

At least ELEVEN matches are announced for tonight’s AEW Dark, including QT Marshall vs. Evil Uno...Matt Sydal vs. PAC...and Frankie Kazarian vs. Serpentico.

On last night’s AEW Dark: Elevation…

Jora Johl, still working to cement his place in the Hardy Family Office, got his first win in AEW. He beat Kal Herro.

Fuego Del Sol picked up a rare win in AEW. He and Sammy Guevara beat Chaos Project. Guevara pinned Luther with the GTH.

Also, Nyla Rose & Diamante beat Big Swole & Julia Hart. Rose pinned Hart with the Beast Bomb.

Hikaru Shida, Emi Sakura and Jade Cargill are now added to the Women’s Casino Battle Royale at All Out.

(STINGER: New Japan)
