I’m Matt Carlins and this is JUST Pro Wrestling News for Tuesday, January 26, 2021.

This update is sponsored by IndyWrestling.us.

Results from Monday night’s Raw and Ring of Honor’s weekend TV are straight ahead in this update but first…

This is the end of the WWE Network as we know it. WWE announcing Monday that NBC Universal’s Peacock streaming service will become the exclusive home of the WWE Network in the United States.

WWE says Peacock will launch its version of the network on March 18, and start rolling out 17,000 hours of WWE content - old, new, documentaries and more - along with ALL WWE pay-per-views. The first of the Peacock Era will be Fastlane on March 21.

Many of the network’s 1.1 million existing subscribers in the U.S. have a lot of questions. Details are a little slim at the moment. WWE says it will have more to say about how it will handle those accounts as we get closer to the Peacock launch in March.

But here’s the bottom line as WWE is laying it out - the Network will be available on Peacock Premium, which costs $4.99 a month. In theory, if you’re a current Network subscriber and you do nothing, you’ll simply be migrated over to Peacock Premium and start paying $4.99 a month.(Yes, $5 LESS than the current price for WWE Network).

OR, you may not have to pay anything - Some 24 million homes with Comcast or Cox cable are already getting Peacock Premium included with their service at no extra charge.

There’s also an ad-free Peacock Premium PLUS that you can get for $9.99 a month.

The deal between WWE and NBCU is reportedly worth $1 billion dollars over the next five years.

Also Monday, WWE announced it expects to report a record operating income for 2020 - of $209 million dollars.

That same announcement also discussed live fan attendance during the COVID-19 pandemic. WWE said it expects to see “cancellation, postponement or reduced capacity” at live events through at least June.

New Royal Rumble entrants announced Monday...and the biggest name is Edge...who announced on last night’s Raw that will return for the first time since he was injured during “The Greatest Match Ever” against Randy Orton back in June.

Also now entered in the Rumble: Mustafa Ali, Sheamus and John Morrison.

Some added sizzle for the return of WWE Backstage this weekend. WWE promoting that the 30th entrant in the men’s Rumble...and the #1 and #2 entrants in the women’s Rumble will be revealed during that show, which airs Saturday night.

WWE announced Monday that Charlotte Flair and Asuka will defend their women’s tag titles at the Rumble...against Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler.

Also announced for the Rumble, Bad Bunny will perform his song “Booker T”, inspired by the wrestling legend of the same name.

The Superstar Spectacle, WWE’s special event for fans in India, airs this morning on the WWE Network.

A couple one-on-one matches on the card: AJ Styles vs. Jeet Rama...and Finn Balor vs. Guru Raaj

Here’s what went else down on last night’s RAW…

Alexa Bliss appeared to be moments away from winning the Raw Women’s title from Asuka...but that’s when Randy Orton appeared, still bearing the damage from Alexa’s fireball attack a couple weeks ago. He hit Bliss with the RKO. And that was the end of the show.

Also last night, Riddle successfully ran the Hurt Business gauntlet - thanks in part to more dissent between Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander. Riddle will get a shot at Bobby Lashley’s U.S. Title.

(STINGER: Impact)

Tonight’s Impact Wrestling will see Matt Cardona in action - teaming with Josh Alexander against Ace Austin & Madman Fulton.

Also, AEW’s Matt Hardy and Private Party, the #1 contenders for the Impact tag titles, will be back on the show.

(STINGER: AEW)

15 matches on tonight’s AEW Dark - including Danny Limelight vs. Sean Maluta. Also in action, Miro, Rey Fenix, SCU and Santana & Ortiz.

A new stipulation added to a match on Wednesday’s Dynamite. BOTH Cash Wheeler and Tully Blanchard will be HANDCUFFED to Luchasaurus during the match between Dax Harwood and Jungle Boy.

(STINGER: ROH)

On Ring Of Honor’s weekend TV, Shane Taylor PINNED Jay Lethal...as Taylor and the Soldiers of Savagery beat The Foundation.

Josh Woods submitted Dalton Castle in a Pure Rules Match.

WWE Backstage Could Ruin Royal Rumble? What is the WrestleMania Main Event? What NBC Character do you want as #30 at Royal Rumble? A little bit of WWE Raw thoughts with burn victims and more!

Welcome to another year of everyone’s favorite fantasy/reality booking game: Mayhem Mania!

Every year, we bring together fans, wrestlers and other folks and ask them to help us construct the BEST WrestleMania card that’s currently possible. Everyone under a WWE contract is eligible to use, as are those who are within the orbit of WWE’s influence.

Every wrestler comes in their current physical, emotional and contractual state. That means anyone out with an injury is NOT eligible to use. (We are ignoring COVID-19 diagnoses because this is supposed to be a fun diversion, not a reminder of the terrible things happening around us.)

Over the coming weeks more players will be invited to make changes to our card. If a match survives three consecutive rounds without being altered in any way, it graduates to our SUPERCARD. The goal is to get 8 awesome matches onto that SUPERCARD before the real WrestleMania.

If you’re wondering if this process actually works, check out the SUPERCARDS from past years of Mayhem Mania.

Mayhem Mania 2015

That’s right. This is our SEVENTH year!

As always, we begin our opening round with a blank slate. 8 players were invited onto the Wrestling Mayhem Show to help us create 8 matches. There is one change from previous years of Mayhem Mania. This year, we’re designating one match slot as the “cinematic match” slot.

Let’s see what everyone came up with.

Match #1 (Created by Professor Jakob Edwin

Match #2 (Created by Dave Podnar

Match #3 (Created by Chad The Shad)

Match #4 (Created by Mad Mike)

Match #5 (Created by The Rizz)

Match #6 (Created by Alex Kahrs)

Match #7 (Created by Tina Keys)

Match #8 (Created by Jordan Styles)

See how easy that is? What a great start for Mayhem Mania 2021!

There are certainly a number of names that some would prefer NOT to see in a match on Mayhem Mania (or WrestleMania, for that matter). That’s why we created SPACE JAIL! It’s a place where players can trap their most unwanted wrestler. Anyone currently in a match on our card can NOT be sent to SPACE JAIL. They’re safe…for now.

Be warned! Every week a spin of our wheel could free that person and there is NO “double jeopardy”.

We gave each of the seven players who joined us live for the opening round the power to send one individual to SPACE JAIL. Here’s who they chose.

WHO SENT WHO TO SPACE JAIL

We’re off to a great start, but Mayhem Mania is rarely a simple process. Next week, we’ll see the first changes to our card.

Results from last night’s NXT, AEW Dynamite and MLW Fusion are straight ahead in this update but first…

(STINGER: WWE)

The WWE Women’s United Kingdom Championship on the line today on NXT UK. Kay Lee Ray is defending against Jinny.

It sounds like there’s gonna be a late change to the final first round match in the men’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

Ashante Adonis & Desmond Troy were both beaten down by Karrion Kross on last night’s NXT.

And in video posted to WWE’s social media later in the night a trainer let slip that he had to pull both from the Dusty Classic.

Their match against Tony Nese & Ariya Daivari was supposed to happen on Friday night’s 205 Live. WWE is also promising a match from the WOMEN’s Dusty Classic on that show.

Let’s get into the rest of last night’s NXT. It was a night of upsets.

In the first match in the first-ever WOMEN’s Dusty Classic...Kayden Carter & Kacy Catanzaro BEAT Toni Storm & Mercedes Martinez.

They got some help from Io Shirai, seeking revenge for an attack by Martinez weeks ago. That left Storm alone. The finish was an insane flipping, spinning something off the top rope by Catanzaro. Check your gifs. It’s there.

There were more upsets last night in the MEN’S Dusty Classic.

Kushida and Leon Ruff beat Johnny Gargano and Austin Theory...and Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado beat Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner - their Imperium cohort Alexander Wolfe made a surprise appearance after the match - and didn’t look very pleased with the result.

Finally, in the main event, Timothy Thatcher SUBMITTED Tommaso Ciampa to win their showdown in the FIGHT PIT. Ciampa got his leg trapped in the cage and Thatcher took advantage.

Next week’s NXT will have Finn Balor teaming with Kyle O’Reilly against the tag champs Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch.

We’ll also see the first quarterfinal matches in the men’s Dusty Classic - Killian Dane & Drake Maverick vs. MSK...and the Grizzled Young Veterans vs. Kushida and Leon Ruff.

Also, Santos Escobar will defend HIS Cruiserweight title against Curt Stallion, who helped Lucha House Party run off Legado del Fasntasmo on NXT last night.

WWE announcing Wednesday a trio of new signings for NXT: Priscilla Kelly, Elayna Black and Lacey Ryan. All three were quickly assigned new ring names...and added to the field for the women’s Dusty Classic.

Kelly and Black will team together as Gigi Dolin and Cora Jade. Ryan will now be known as Zoey Stark and she’s going to tag with Marina Shafir in the tournament.

Chad Gable revealing that his former tag team partner Jason Jordan is NOT giving up on a return to the ring.

(Gable On Jordan)

Gable speaking on Wednesday’s episode of The Bump. Jordan’s last match was just over three years ago..when a neck injury forced him from the ring.

(STINGER: AEW)

AEW putting pieces in place for the coming weeks on last night’s Dynamite.

The biggest development involved Hangman Page. He and the Dark Order teamed up to beat The Hybrid2 and Chaos Project. But after the match, Hangman politely declined to join the Dark Order.

A pre-recorded segment appeared to show Don Callis trying to bribe the Young Bucks to split with Kenny Omega...before the Bucks beat up Callis.

The Impact tag champs, the Good Brothers were back on Dynamite. They attacked Penta El Zero M backstage.

The Good Brothers will be back on Dynamite NEXT Wednesday - teaming with the Young Bucks against the Dark Order.

Eddie Kingston vs. Lance Archers also added to next week’s show.

In TWO weeks, the Good Brothers and Kenny Omega will take on Jon Moxley and the Lucha Bros. in the main event of AEW’s Beach Break special.

Last night’s main event saw MJF pin Sammy Guevara to win the Inner Circle tag team triple threat.

Matt Hardy & Private Party - fresh off their appearance on last night’s Impact - used a steel chair to beat Matt Sydal & Top Flight.

Also last night, AEW announced a tournament to crown a new #1 contender for their women’s championship. AEW did not mention when it will begin.

Jacob Fatu remains the MLW World Champion. He beat ACH on last night’s Fusion.
