Throughout her career she was has worked with the likes of Ava Duvernay, Viola Davis and most recently Donald Glover on the hit show "Swarm". Soeur Talks had the opportunity to chat with two visionary women in the fashion space - Beth Birkett (founder, Bephie's Beauty Supply /co-owner, Union ) & Jasmine Plantin (founder, AMPWATA /designer, Nike) regarding their collaboration - an art piece to be worn that also tells the story of Bruce's Beach. Bruce's Beach is a beach located in Santa Monica, Los Angeles that once served as an African-American leisure space during the era of segregation. Historian, Dr. Allison Rose Jefferson's research piece on this space and the story of it being taken away is the inspiration behind this collaboration. We delve into Beth and Jasmine's collaboration process and discuss why it was important for them to tell this story. In addition we also chat about what their experiences have been as Black female creatives, business owners, women in the fashion and streetwear space, what it's like to not fit into boxes and the importance of Black women telling our own stories.
