My name is Dr. Kathryn Perkel and I am a Clinical Psychologist currently residing in Knoxville TN. I have created the podcast Soul Centered Therapy to help others learn to both interact with and clinically heal our world-weary, ego-bound broken hearts and minds from a deeply spiritual, soul-centered place.
Existential and Transpersonal psychology begins to address the soul in both theoretical practices. In existential psychology we begin to ponder how to make meaning out of our individual experiences despite our knowing that this human form is limited; this in and of itself can create immense suffering for us as physical human beings. This suffering then creates existential anxiety when our belief that consciousness dies with the physical death of the human body is the only truth. This then can lead to fears about “getting enough out of life,” to learning how to cheat aging and eventually death.
Transpersonal Psychology attempts to bridge this gap in their recognizing the importance of including the spiritual element of our psychological experiences. However, while many transpersonal psychologists theoretically address and attempt to understand this concept, many fall short in engaging the soul self practically through in session.
In Soul Centered Therapy I hope to I teach people view the soul as a very real and integral part of the human experience rather an abstract concept to be examined in ancient texts in whatever religious establishment one may or may not ascribe. With this knowledge, we can all experience so much emotional and psychic relief in our day to day life experience.
