Soul Essence with Martin Gale

This week, we keep Soul Essence nice and soulful, with an R&B crossover, a little old-school UK garage and some big disco business along the way. Jill Scott gets the Terry Hunter treatment on Can't Wait, while Lisa Stansfield's The Real Thing brings us Mark Picchiotti's Good Time Disco Vocal. We've got The Shapeshifters and Teni Tinks with You Ain't Love too.

In our second hour, we head back to the classics we love with Steve 'Silk' Hurley and Sharon Pass on The Word Is Love. There’s more disco to come as we work our way towards the funky nu-disco sounds of Serge Funk and Can't Get Enough.

This week, we begin with a little nod to that classic soulful house sound, then turn up the warmth with familiar voices and a few fresh spins on old favourites. Toscana gets us underway, while Johnny Corporate's Sunday Shoutin' brings an old school touch and DJ Fudge keeps us moving.

Blaze and Barbara Tucker's Most Precious Love still has plenty of life in it, and Dajae's Brighter Days gets a gospel lift from DJ Spen, Thommy Davis and Gary Hudgins. In hour two, Patti Austin and Masters At Work ease us back in before Michael Gray and Barbara Tucker raise the energy. We take a jazzy, funky turn through The Brand New Heavies and Incognito, then a bit of disco house with Danny Coleman and Aneta Moran. Soulsearcher brings back that classic funky house feel before Kathy Brown and Revival House Project help us round things off.

This week, we start a little deeper with N.W.N. and Emél, then settle into the soulful voices of Hannah Khemoh, Arnold Jarvis and Stephanie Cooke. There’s plenty on the pile for Soul Essence: a fresh Dave Lee take on The Brand New Heavies, Birdee and Kelli Sae’s Sweet Love, and that lovely lift when Pauline Henry leads us into the second hour.

We’ve got one of my all-time favourites, Adeva, coming out of the vinyl vaults with Love To Infinity on the remix. Barbara Tucker and The BCrew bring their Promised Land homage, before Mark Picchiotti and Candice Chavez give us My Soul Cries Out. Later, we take a turn through Bonetti’s nudisco and the old school brass loop on Fruco Fresh’s We Roll. A proper mix of deep house, vocal warmth and funky business for your Friday.

This week, we begin October with classic vocal house before taking a turn through gospel, disco and a bit of jackin house. We've got familiar favourites with a fresh touch, keeping Soul Essence nice and soulful along the way. Jody Watley's Off The Hook gets us underway with that MAW mix, while Peacey and Rona Ray's Playground brings Groove Assassin into the picture.

Dajae's Brighter Days gives us a gospel-house lift, with that familiar vocal still doing the business. In the second hour, we hear the brass of The Chocolate Fudge Band before Seamus Haji's Weekend takes us back towards the strings with John Morales on the mix. Later, there's remastered British house from Inland Knights and that killer bassline on The Fog's Been A Long Time, before Purple Disco Machine brings us Song for O.

This week, we ease into Soul Essence with the warm, soulful glow of Sticks & Stonez and Liv East before moving through John Morales groove and Sam Curran's classy, deep funk. We've got The Shapeshifters and Joss Stone bringing the big vocal feeling, while Tim Deluxe's Ibiza favourite gets a fresh lift.

In the second hour, Michael Gray, Kelli Sae and DJ Spen keep the soulful house flowing, with Barbara Tucker's garage-rooted Stay Together and Dr Packer's polished Change Position rework bringing the classics we love. Mark Picchiotti's I Believe gets a gospel-house lift, then Micky More and Andy Tee add fresh funky flavour before Gusto and Nomad/Soulvation bring this House FM session home.

This week, we begin Soul Essence with Jaegerossa and Suki Soul, bringing a little 1979 sparkle into the opening before a beautiful RedSoul and MIMI JAZMINA take on a Kathy Brown favourite. From there, Kym Sims gives us a lesser-heard E-Smoove touch, while Clara Hill and Crackazat bring those smoky jazz vocals that always land so well.

The second half settles into deeper soulful house with Soul In The Horn, Bee Honey’s sweet vocal glow and Franck Roger’s more stripped-back mood. We’ve got disco touches, bass and a proper little swagger from Animist and Ciggyman, before Atari Safari give Gwen Guthrie’s familiar vocal a fresh house bite for the final stretch.

This week, we begin with a big soulful-house moment from Loleatta Holloway before moving through fresh vocals, original garage, disco and some bassier business later on. As usual, we’ve got new flavours blended up nice and smooth alongside the classics we love.

Inner City and Steffanie Christi’an bring us Turn Me On, Barbara Tucker and Tyyla get right in the feels, and Mariah Carey takes us into the vinyl vaults with Dreamlover. Hour two opens beautifully with Lisa Stansfield, then Soul Revival and Capathia Jenkins lead us into that proper garage feeling. From there, Kano and D.P.V. set up the funkier end of the show before Inner City return with Good Life and Neil Willis takes us Deeper Love.

This week, we start soulful, sunny and beautifully relaxed for a birthday broadcast, with a few Latin flavours carried through from last time and some proper Soul Essence warmth in the mix.

Ezel and Rona Ray open things up with Endless Summer, with Audiowhores and Susana Montero, Jerry Ropero, Roger Garcia and Mijangos, Stryv and Hotmood keeping that early glow moving. Then the show rolls into soulful house, disco touches and proper house memories, with Michael Gray and Barbara Tucker, Seamus Haji and Kathy Brown, DJ Fudge with Ralph Session and Chinua Hawk, Bobby & Steve with Lifford, and Hifi Sean with Paris Grey all on the pile.

We head a little deeper later on with Testify, I'm Free, Red Alert and Turn Me Deeper before Bohannon brings us home with Let's Start The Dance.

This week, we ease ourselves in at the deep end before the Friday feelgood switch gets properly flicked. Incognito opens with Wake Me under Louie Vega and Joe Claussell’s hands, Crackazat takes on Tryin’ Times, and there’s warm soulful house from Candice Hoyes, Paris Cesvette with Tracy Hamlin, Kym Sims and Cafe 432.

The Shapeshifters bring a classic-house lift with Back To Basics, while Daisuke Miyamoto slips in that cheeky Michael Jackson sample. Hour two starts with Barbara Tucker, heads into Fonda Rae’s old-school class and Lovebirds’ Wrap Me Up, then Talking Heads brings a funk bassline that means business. Mark Knight carries Curtis Mayfield’s Move On Up firmly into this century, Ladies On Mars gives us a Quincy tribute, and a rare Dimitri take on Stardust helps bring us home.

This week, we ease in with a melodic, soulful opening before the sunshine properly kicks in. Memi P. and Djarah get us moving with 100 Proof, Detroit Rising and Kimberly Davis keep things smooth on Good Vibrations, and Barbara Tucker brings one of the classics we love with Stay Together.

Then we stir up a little Latin house party, with Harry Romero's take on Ritmo Da Rua, Mirko and Meex's Amore and the brass-led bounce of El Trompetista. Hour two heads into disco-house and familiar favourites: Todd Terry revisits Peanut Butter, Dave Lee and Maurissa Rose bring By Loves Design, and Michael Gray brings remix magic to Mystic Merlin. Atari Safari refresh an eighties favourite before Bob Sinclar and Ron Carroll take us firmly into filtered house with House Music.
