Maybe that is you? There is one theme that has run throughout this series and that is that God makes promises and He delivers. Today, we look at a number of times that God has said that whoever trusts in Him will not be put to shame, nor will they be disappointed. Have you ever looked forward to something so much, and then it gets there and you are like "Meh", that was not all it was hyped up to be. God trumps that!

Are you feeling defeated today, maybe you can't find the next step, maybe you feel overwhelmed or drowning in the waters of life? Or maybe you just need to be encouraged that God is truly in control of this world gone haywire?

I have mentioned many times, that when God makes promises – He delivers them. He always keeps His promises. So God used a Roman emperor – who probably had the most power in the world that any man had ever had up to this time – God uses Caesar to allow Jesus to be born in Bethlehem, thereby fulfilling His prophecy – the promise of a Savior to come out of Bethlehem - so that we knew that this was the exact Savior that the prophets had fortold in Micah 5:2 – God had planned it out.

Here is a Selah moment –

In verse 68, Zacharias is prophesying of Jesus (not John) talking about God bringing deliverance and redemption to His people Israel, we see all the references to Jesus –

The Horn of Salvation in the house of David His servant;

A mighty and valiant helper;

The Author of Salvation;

To carry out His covenant made with Abraham...

Here is Zacharias – who has not even met Jesus yet, he has most likely not been born yet...

and Zacharias has such a love and respect for Jesus...

As Christians, we can have such a relationship with Jesus, so much more than Zacharias had at this point, yet do WE have this exuberant song within such as Zacharias did here???

Here is a Selah moment –

Jesus was in the womb of Mary at the time. Mary walks in the door and greets Elizabeth – Elizabeth hears her voice – the baby John leaps in her womb, and she is filled with the Spirit.

Galatians 2:20 says that Christ lives in me and I live by faith in Him and His love for me. So. If I am walking around during my day, interacting with other people, does the sound of my voice cause others to realize that there is something different about me? Do they recognize Christ in me? Do they see Him?

Acts 17:28 – In Him, we live and move and have our being – So We are in Christ, and now we see Christ is in us, but see how this works in John 15:4 – Dwell in Me and I will dwell in you – Live in me, and I will live in you, just as no branch can bear fruit of itself without abiding in the vine (or being vitally united to it), neither can you bear fruit unless you abide in Me.

Seeing Mary here and what happens with Elizabeth, when I looked at this closer and was studying up for this podcast, it made me seriously think what is the effect we can have on others around us when we are fully open and available to Christ living (breathing, talking, walking, serving) in us.

Here is a Selah moment – Luke 1:37

For with God nothing is ever impossible and no word from God shall be without power or impossible of fulfillment.

For Mary and Elizabeth - it may have seemed that it was impossible for them to bring children into the world in their present state. And then we see this promise.

Maybe you struggle with infertility – or maybe you struggle with another condition that seems impossible. Today, I share one of our family's impossible situations. We have all been called to our own impossible. Draw near to God and He draws near to you. There's a promise. For with God, nothing is ever impossible and there is nothing that God says that is impossible to be fulfilled.

Here is a Selah moment –

Zachariah prayed

-the angel said “your prayers are answered, your wife shall have a son.”

This is your sign today that when you pray, your prayers of faith are filled in heaven – they are never forgotten – I think about my mother on her knees for all her adult days for us children and when she died, I received one of her bibles and in there is a prayer for my brother who is the alcoholic. I know and I believe that God will answer that prayer, she did not live to see the answer, but she has a whole different view. God does not forget. If we are not receiving it now, then we may receive it later. God provides the answer in His way, because His ways are above our ways, His thoughts higher – we cannot know how or when, but we continue to seek Him and keep the line of communication open, just like Zachariah.

Hosea 11:1

When Israel was a child, I loved him,

And out of Egypt I called My son.

Let’s look at the selah moments for today – God called His Son out of Egypt – just as God called the Israelites out of bondage

And He is calling you out of your bondage –

Zechariah 9:9

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!

Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem!

Behold, your King is coming to you;

He is just and having salvation,

Lowly and riding on a donkey,

A colt, the foal of a donkey.

Because Jesus came we no longer need a high priest – someone that has no sympathy and does not understand our weaknesses – and our infirmities and our temptations – but we have Jesus who has been tempted in every way – just like us – and yet He is without sin –

But we have Jesus – so we can fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace – (the throne of God’s unmerited favor to us sinners), that we may receive mercy for our failures – and find grace to help in good time for every need appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it!

Here is another SELAH moment for the day – we have Jesus – we can get mercy from Him when we mess up – maybe you don’t have that problem – but I do –🙋‍♀️ I mess up a lot less and it get’s easier the closer I walk with Jesus –

I have learned He knows I am not perfect, there is no fooling him – and the sooner I just come clean with Him and confess my doings, the sooner I get myself before that throne of mercy - the sooner I get the grace I need – and His grace just like Hebrews says is well-timed – it is never late – never early – it is always on God’s time –

This is all the result of God sending Jesus to bridge the gap that man had made through sin – He revealed His plan to the prophets who foretold of the birth of a Savior –

the triumphant entry of the King of David into Jerusalem –

and then caused His promises to be fulfilled !

I can imagine being one of the shepherds, I would be thinking or saying to the angels … Why the jubilee? Why are you singing your joyous song over and over? What can you possibly be singing about, don’t you know there is nothing to be joyful about, we are no longer a people.

But…the angels sang …

Because God made a promise and just as we have been learning, He delivered that promise.

And the shepherds went … Because the angels sang…
