For millennia, sexuality has been largely misunderstood. People see it as an “act” between two or more persons. It is something to “get” or to “have” or to “do”.

The ancients knew differently.

They knew that sexuality was not limited to the bedroom.

They knew that your sexual, creative, life force energy was yours. It belonged to you. It was used to activate and expand into higher levels of consciousness.

Sexual energy is earth energy. It is literally life moving through you.

Everyone is innately sexual. I don’t care how dimmed your desire has been. You are still a sexual being. Your sexuality does not taint your divinity. Your divine self is sexual.

Much of the wounding around sexuality began when we were told that god was disembodied, lived outside of the earth, and was a single man. Apparently, he wasn’t having sex, but guess what?

All of the ancient civilizations prior to that had a male and female god that mated to create life. There was always a feminine deity alongside the masculine deity. They were always in pairs. There were always two, yet they were one. A festival honoring sacred sexual union was celebrated for over 2,000 years in ancient Mesopotamia.

Even the Rig Vedas from India say that it was the sexual union of the male and female that created all of life.

It took thousands of years for people to begin ingesting the idea that the divine is not sexual, or that something is wrong with sexuality. A lot of force, violence, and suppression was used to do so.

Starting this week, I am doing a Series on God & Sex Series on Sacred Sexuality.

Recently I have heard several people say they’re not interested in dating because they don’t “need” a partner. The comment represents the (old, often subconscious) belief that relationships are founded on need, not desire.

You’re not supposed to “need” a relationship. The very word indicates codependent patterns within oneself.

Need indicates lack.

Desire comes from a place of fullness.
