In this episode of Soul Sufficient, I'm joined by Paul, who shares his powerful journey from corporate burnout to building a completely off-grid life in rural France.

After years in the corporate world and experiencing burnout in 2016, Paul made the bold decision to follow his heart and radically redesign his life. In his 60s, he purchased 3 hectares of land in the Dordogne region of France for just €45,000 and is now building a wooden prefab cabin while living on the land in a yurt with his dog, Bente.

Paul opens up about the realities of off-grid living — from navigating French building regulations and permits, to setting up utilities, managing finances, and adapting emotionally to major life changes. He shares why he chose land over a house, his vision for creating a small nature-based retreat centre, and how he’s monetising assets like camper vans, tents, and coaching to support a slower, more intentional lifestyle.

This conversation is an honest and inspiring look at what it really takes to live off-grid in France — practically, financially, and emotionally — while staying aligned with freedom, simplicity, and inner truth.
