In Bhagavad Gita Chapter 7 Lord Krishna says that all states of being be they of goodness, passion or ignorance, are manifested by his energy. Krishna says he is in one sense, everything, but he is independent. He is not under the modes of material nature, for they, on the contrary, are within him.
Lord Krishna also says that this divine energy of mine, consisting of the three modes of material nature , is difficult to overcome. But those who have surrendered into him can easily cross beyond it.
As a lamp in a windless place does not waver, so the transcendentalist, whose mind is controlled, remains always steady in his meditation on the transcendent self. In the stage of perfection called trance, or samadhi, one's mind is completely restrained from material mental activities by practice of yoga.
The perfection is characterized by one's ability to see the self by pure mind and to relish and rejoice in the self. In that joyous state, one is situated in boundless transcendental happiness, realized through transcendental senses. Established thus, one never departs from the truth, and upon gaining this he thinks that there is no greater gain.
Being situated in such a position, one is never shaken, even in the midst of greatest difficulty. This indeed is actual freedom from all miseries arising from material contact.
In Bhagavad Gita Chapter 5 Shri Krishna says that the renunciation of work and work in devotion are both good for liberation. But, of the two, work in devotional service is better than renunciation of work.
One who neither hates nor desires the fruits of his activities is know to be always renounced. Such a person, free from all dualities, easily overcomes material bondage and is completely liberated.
Merely renouncing all activities yet not engaging in the devotional service of the lord cannot make one happy. But a thoughtful person engaged in devotional service can achieve the supreme without delay.
Krishna in bhagavad Gita Chapter 4 says that, one who is satisfied with gain which comes of its own accord, who is free from duality and does not envy, who is steady in both success and failure, is never entangled, although performing actions.
He also says that the work of a man who is unattached to the modes of material nature and who is fully situated in transcendental knowledge merges entirely into transcendence. Krishna says, that many people worship demmi gods, which is not an ideal thing to do because he is supreme.
Chapter 3 of Bhagavad Gita is all about karma, in Bhagavad Gita Chapter 3 Krishna Says, not by merely abstaining from work can one achieve freedom from reaction, nor by renunciation alone can one attain perfection. One who restrains the senese of action but whose mind dwells on sense objects certainly deludes himself and is called a pretender. Krishna also says in this chapter to perfrom duties without attachment to results that is the direction of right path in life.
