Lisa was in utero when her mother was stripped away from the love of her life, the father of her child, and the only husband she would know.

Her grandparents sent her mother to a school for young pregnant women in the late 1960's when they found out she was carrying her Black boyfriend's child.

Lisa's paternal grandmother then rescued Lisa's mother from the boarding school, and later hosted the wedding of both her son and Lisa's mother, in her living room. It was 1969.
