Many of us have this sense of longing after a feeling of peace, belonging, trust and love. We often think of life a something getting in the way of this – with all the messy aspects of life, and think that we will be peaceful, happy and whole once this whole mess is over. But what if life with all the confusing, sometimes difficult mess is the curriculum? That everything that brings us out of balance and away from our divine Self, is really the gateway to the Self? Then we might stop trying to get the difficult parts of life over with and instead harvest the great teachings and invitations in life itself. We do this by becoming present with us self´s and life as it unfolds and over and over re-identify with the divine healing power within. A near death experience gave neurosurgeon and author, Dr. Eben Alexander proof of heaven. Listen to what we can learn about heaven on earth and the eternal Love that we are all a part of from his experience.
His book Proof of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon's Journey into the Afterlife (2012) describes his near-death experience that happened in 2008 under medically-induced coma when treated for meningitis. He asserts that the coma resulted in brain death, that consciousness is not only a product of the brain and that this permits access to an afterlife.
I love it when people who have had profound spiritual awakenings and can share with us what we already know – often without understanding it, and so often forget,- that we are really divine beings in a human experience and that identifying with our divine loving Self can not only heal us selves but heal the world. The IFS (Internal family system) show us how we contain many different internal parts that once arose in an attempt to protect us. They can be contradictory, which is why we can experience conflict within. Perhaps, for example, you long to try something new in your life and a part of you believes in you, while another part holds you back and talks you down. Or you may yearn for more loving close relationships, but something in you holds you back when the opportunity arises. We also contain a Self, an essence or soul that is healing and infinitely loving. When the parts of us that are sometimes stuck in previous ages feel that there is a Self at home that is connected to the universe and unconditionally compassionate, they are healed and go from being destructive, to being valuable support of the inside. When I first started working with IFS, I immediately thought that our inner parts, - our protectors and the emotions we put in exile, must be Enneagram-typical and that it would be possible to draw a map of the different inner parts of the types. That's why I'm so happy to be able to present these 3 conversations with American Joan Ryan, originally a lawyer, but now working with the Enneagram and, like me, nurding with me – combining these two amazing systems.
