French in name but American by birth, the magazine Vogue (founded 1892) has always been a New York-centric magazine with a Parisian point of view. Through Vogue, fashion was the centerpiece of a new transatlantic style; American readers counted on the magazine for guidance on trends in the French capital... By 1920, French women clamored for an edition of their own, and in June that year the first issue of French Vogue appeared on newsstands, with an opening editorial proclaiming "On parle français!".
