Well, it's kind of natural that we lose track sometimes of what we're doing because the world's very topsy-turvy. And many things come upon us that we weren't expecting. We may think, "Oh, I can hold forth in any circumstance," and then a circumstance comes and we say, "Except for this one," or, "This is the exception," and then, you know, we can be thrown off course.

So part of this, as I mentioned, I think, the other day, balance doesn't mean being perfectly still but it means knowing how to pull back to the center. And the practices that we do when we are on course are never lost; they're there as an asset that you can call upon and remember that you did it before and you can pick it back up again.

It's helpful to not be too hard on yourself and to just pick up where you left off. Don't lament too much and just start. How can you keep the taste, as you mentioned? You answered your own question: coming to a place where we have more association. Also, it's helpful to re-establish your priorities in life.

So one of the habits of speech Kṛṣṇa talks about is speaking beneficially. Have you ever said anything to anybody in your household that wasn't beneficial? I'll take that as a yes. There may be a way in which, even towards, I heard this saying once. I don't know if it's true, but it sounds true to me, 'you only hurt the ones you love.' There may be a way in which you could say things out of a sense of being dissatisfied or grouchy, and may say something mean, mean-spirited to somebody, even somebody that you don't mean to say it to. And if you learn how to curb that tendency to say hurtful things, and you also filter before you speak and think is this beneficial, what I'm saying, it's one of the filters you can put on and you practice that. These kinds of practices, including body, mind, satisfaction, and speech, which is especially beneficial because this is one of the great secrets of becoming a better person and getting the highest, developing your full potential in life.

You didn't hear it here first, probably, but it's worth repeating. There's a verse from an ancient Purāṇa that says that all spiritual advancement and all development of your potential in life comes from your tongue. The tongue is the gateway sense. Bhāgavatam says, if you can control the tongue, then you know that all your senses are controlled. And if you can't control your tongue, then you can be sure that the other senses aren't controlled yet.

So there's a way in which, if you carefully audit what you're going to say to make sure that it's beneficial, one aspect, there's other aspects, when keeping it simple. Just by that practice, developing that habit, it'll have a systemic effect on your life. Those are three habits that one might develop to gain this spiritual strength through which one can overcome the strong urges that push us to do things that we didn't really intend to do and aren't good for us, but we do it anyway.

And if you've ever been in that situation where you got multiple answers to your question, if you look it up on YouTube, everyone will tell you something different, because everyone has a different angle. So Subuddhi Rāya was very confused, so he was advised to go to Caitanya Mahāprabhu. And he asked Lord Caitanya, after telling him of his situation, what should I do? And Mahāprabhu gave a very simple answer, and straightforward, would you like to know what his answer was?

The solution, it's three words: Chant Hare Kṛṣṇa. One may say, Oh, that's too simple. I need a political solution. I need to take it to court. I need some other way to rectify the situation. But Caitanya Mahāprabhu's approach was very simple. Chant Hare Kṛṣṇa and I read a letter that Prabhupāda wrote to one of the members of ISKCON who had brought Prabhupāda Some conundrum, and Prabhupāda wrote back, he said it's the same old answer in its three words.

Audience: Chant Hare Kṛṣṇa!

That's right. So the simple approach, according to Occam's razor, is the best, and one may adopt a simple process after well reasoned faith in the process itself, it's already been vetted. You don't have to vet it yourself. You don't have to invent something else. There's three words: Chant Hare Kṛṣṇa. Everyone's going to undergo tribulation in life because it's very confusing world we live in, politically, physically, relationship wise and so on. So there's three words, which we'll end with today. Chant Hare Kṛṣṇa. Thank you very much for joining Japa Circle.

Gaslighting is horrible. It means not taking responsibility for your actions and blaming others. It's usually done in a very subtle way, where the person being victimized doesn't realize it for a long time, until later when they realize, "Oh, I didn't do anything wrong; that person put everything on me." We can also slide into this adverse consciousness where we gaslight God. So don't do that, says the shastra. Just be honest. Admit that God is the supreme controller, admit that everything belongs to Him, and live a happy life. You won't be bereft of anything, just like I gave my garland away and got a new one.

That happens. One might think that if they don't hold on to all their stuff, they're going to be a loser. But it turns out that those who think, "I'm going to just serve God the way He asks to be served: 'patraṁ puṣpaṁ phalaṁ toyaṁ,' offer things to me, don't consider them yours and covet them. Offer them to me, you will enjoy much more." Because there's a quality to one's life then: first of all, one doesn't feel guilty, thinking, "I'm a thief." And second of all, there's a loving reciprocation from God. Plus, one realizes that God is so nice that He considers every gesture towards Him as so important that He Himself feels He can't repay it, as in the story of Sudāmā.

So you can remember, even if you feel that whatever you're offering in the way of your chanting is subpar, insignificant, Kṛṣṇa appreciates it. As we were talking before we started live streaming, is just showing up is a big deal. There's lots of other things you could do. And so what if you show up and you struggle with your chanting, at least you're trying, and you can be thinking that's I don't have much to offer because I'm so lowly, but still, Kṛṣṇa is so grateful that He'll accept it. And He becomes controlled by the love of his devotees, who even hesitatingly offer something because they think it's not worthy. So we can be encouraged by the fact that this is not something impersonal. We're dealing with a real person who's full of gratitude and is already reciprocating with us and wants to reciprocate more, just opening our hearts to all that he has to offer, is really the process of bhakti.

There's a mode of chanting the holy name of the Lord, an attitude that is especially important, because there's not just chanting the holy name, but there's also avoiding offenses. They're called aparādhas.The word aparādha, ārādhana means proper mode of worship, and aparādha means not worshiping properly. It has to do with one's attitude.

The aligning mode for chanting, or the advice which aligns us for chanting properly is 'tṛṇād api sunīcena taror api sahiṣṇunā amāninā mānadena kīrtanīyaḥ sadā hariḥ (Śikṣāṣṭaka 3)', and that is don't look for respect.

Find your respect from your own sincerity and worshiping Kṛṣṇa, who will recognize you and appropriately engage you in service,.But give respect to all others without expecting respect in return. Is that fine?

Audience:Yes!

There's something to practice and also consider oneself very humble, whatever position we have as Vaiṣṇavas is marked by being humble. Kṛṣṇa tells Uddhava, when he's describing bhakti yoga, that the main point is one should show respect to all living beings. He said, The Vaiṣṇava is so respectful that he or she will offer obeisances, heartfelt obeisances, even to a dog, because he sees Kṛṣṇa there within the heart and sees the living entity as a spark of Kṛṣṇa So take this with humility and also make a discipline of not criticizing vaiṣṇavas. How may one do that?

You can become preoccupied with your own shortcomings, not so that you become morose or disappointed, but do make a catalog of all the ways in which you feel that you can improve, and whenever you feel an urge, it's one of the vegas, I want to find fault in somebody that, instead of doing that, go back to your list and say, let me work on all this first, and as soon as I'm able to overcome all my faults, then maybe I'll think about it. It's procrastination for the right cause. Don't criticize vaishnavas, okay.

What we're engaged in is the vanguard of the Kṛṣṇa Consciousness Movement. Is the ultimate purpose for establishing centers all over the world, and that is to have more outlets from which we can go out and save the conditioned souls. It's not a service that has a plateau. Prabhupāda writes in the ādi lilā of the Caitanya-caritāmṛta, that there's no limit to the expansion of of the preaching of Kṛṣṇa consciousness.

So I congratulate everyone who joined the call today, who's taking on some anxiety for the sake of expanding this distribution of transcendental literature. It's a very measurable service, and therefore we fixate on the numbers because we want to increase. And as a reminder, our guiding principle is that we assume it can be done. It's illegal to claim otherwise.

Otherwise, one has to join the atheists and say that it can't be done because of some material condition. We don't believe in that. We believe that this is a transcendental movement, and very specifically, that the ability to expand book distribution unlimitedly comes from understanding the internal potency of Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu And just that Śrīla Prabhupāda expanded the saṅkīrtana movement practically single handedly because of his absorption in that internal energy. We can each do that, and collectively, we can do it too.

However, the Śāstra are all telling us that you don't have to give in to such weakness. You can develop a strength of heart so that you can rise.So in the in the name of or under the banner of determination and effort,we can remember that practice well, while you can.There's no guarantee we'll have extra time and at some point, as Prabhupāda points out in a purport, we have to fly our planes solo.So get as much practice as you can while you can. And Prabhupāda writes that the ācharya, the guru and the śāstra, can give us hints for advancing in spiritual life, but we have to do the work.So never claim to be too weak, to take responsibility, to do what is right, because everyone can rise in due course of time. Kṛṣṇa gives this recommendation in the Bhāgvatam (11.21.2); "sve sve ’dhikāre yā niṣṭhā sa guṇaḥ parikīrtitaḥ", do the best you can with what you have right now. But don't throw the whole thing away by saying, I'm too weak, I can't improve. Can always improve from where you are now. May not be as much as what other people are doing, but that's okay. You can only do what you can do, but try to do better every single day.

I put one molecule of anger and what did I get back? A waterfall, you know. They just kept coming, flash flood, washed away Kentucky, you know, gone in two days. And, like, that's what happens when you get angry. And If you realize that, you're able to read the śāstra and listen to Kṛṣṇa's words, He says don't act like that, do it in another way. You learn some tools. You know, when it comes up, first the urge comes up and then you think, your intelligence takes over, and you think, 'Oh good, now I get a chance to practice. Watch this, Kṛṣṇa, I'm going to do it, here I go.' And you feel so satisfied. Then you'll notice that the environment changes. The person that you're interacting with, they suddenly go, 'Wait, what? You're not going to fight on this? What happened to you?' And then they calm down too. The whole situation calms down, and you start to realize that, wow, Kṛṣṇa's advice in the Bhagavad-gītā works in commonplace things. It's not such a heady thing for some yogi in the Himālayas. It's for us, for living our daily lives, interacting with people that we don't like how they chew.

This is from the Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta Ādi Lilā, chapter eight, text number 21, such a charming verse in which the author has written Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu as the Supreme Personality of Godhead Himself is fully independent. Therefore, although it is the most confidentially stored benediction he can distribute Love of Godhead to anyone and everyone without consideration. And here's Śrīla Prabhupāda's purport. This is the benefit of Lord Caitanya's movement, if one somehow or other comes in contact with the Hare Kṛṣṇa movement without consideration of his being a śūdra, vaiśya, a Jagāi Mādhāi, or even lower, he becomes advanced in spiritual consciousness and immediately develops love of Godhead. Boy! That's an astounding statement. If, even if somebody's lower than Jagāi Mādhāi, do you have anybody like that in Oceania lower than Jagāi Mādhāi? Okay, you'll have to look, look around and find somebody and test this out. We now have actual experience that throughout the entire world, this movement is making many such persons lovers of God simply by chanting of the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahāmantra actually Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, has appeared as the spiritual master of the entire world. He does not discriminate between offenders and the innocent. kṛṣṇa-prema-pradāya te. He literally gives love of God to anyone and everyone. This can be actually experienced, as stated in the next verse this section of the Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta goes to the mood of Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu, the most munificent and generous in giving out love of God. So we could follow in the footsteps of Lord Caitanya. We're definitely not Babājis. We don't retreat to a solitary place to chant for ourselves. We're following the footsteps of the great givers of Kṛṣṇa Consciousness going out and giving to everyone possible. So let's talk together about what's happening on your side of the Earth, planet that's been allotted to you. You got a whole section of the planet to take care of, and anyone else who's listening in from other parts of the world, you've got your whole township, or whatever it is, you're free to inundate it with Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Use the time you have in this human form of life to follow Lord Caitanya, Mahāprabhu mood of generosity, and you'll become perfect in Kṛṣṇa consciousness. (excerpt from the talk 07:13)
