When we chant, we must concentrate our mind on the sound vibration, and in that way everything will be revealed one after another; the form, qualities, pastimes, etc. of the Lord. But what I find very useful about this quote from Prabhupada is that we don't have to do anything else when we're chanting except chant and listen because everything will be revealed one after another. And those types of quotes really help me because the mind always wants to take a walk somewhere and go see something else—addicted to distraction. Let's... can't there be anything else besides this? But then the direction comes that there is nothing else besides this—everything's in it. So if one can be aware of that fact that everything's within the holy name and everything that you're looking for, dear mind, will be revealed one after another, then it makes a worthy challenge to stick with listening. ..when you give up the tendency to say, "This is mine." For instance, with intellectual property, we may hear something and then say, "Oh, that came from somebody else, but I'm going to present it as mine because I want to enjoy the fame of saying something that sounds witty." We don't admit it. Vraja Vihari Prabhu told me once, "When you give credit where credit is due, you don't lose credit." On the other hand, another Godbrother told me, "If you take credit where credit isn't due, later on, you'll be blamed for something you didn't do." You might wonder, "I didn't do anything; they blame me." It's because you claimed credit at one time. Devotees know these subtleties, that everything evens out in the world. It's okay to be who you are, which is a servant of Krishna.

This verse, he's saying, "First remember, then fight." So, we all have our fighting duties to do in this life. Kṛṣṇa says, "Line it up: first remember me, then fight." Tasmāt sarveṣu kāleṣu, which means "at all times and all places," practice remembering me. Then he says, "Mām evaiṣyasy asaṁśayah," without a doubt. Now he emphasizes—actually, I sort of read into this verse the idea of practice, but the next verse, Kṛṣṇa very clearly tells us how to achieve this ultimate end in life.

There are three rules. Would you like to know what they are? Yes (audience) : practice, practice, practice. They fit together well. Abhyāsa-yoga-yuktena cetasā nānya-gāminā paramaṁ puruṣaṁ divyaṁ yāti pārthānucintayan. This all has to do with remembrance and practicing remembering Kṛṣṇa. Abhyāsa is something that all of you progressives in the world—progressive in the sense that you know how to move forward in various disciplines—you've all done it in extraordinary ways. You know what it takes, right? Say yes. Yes (audience), it takes three things: practice, practice, and practice. (Excerpt from the talk)

So, there's a way in which everyone has a capacity. When we take the mantras and when we take books—which are literary Kirtan—they get to carry it home, and the mantra goes on and on for generations so that people may take advantage of it. Writing is simply speech abstracted anyway. When we see the result ourselves, how people react to the mantra, how they come alive, it's in parallel. The parallel I'm making is that animals would be killed. Nowadays, asuryā nāma te lokā, andhena tamasāvṛtāḥ, tāḿs te pretyābhigacchanti, ye ke cātma-hano janāḥ (Śrī Īśopaniṣad, Mantra 3). It says there's a process by which the soul is veritably killed by getting involved with the material nature. The mind, which is meant to think of Krishna, becomes Jaḍa—dead like stone—and they can't think of anything except for matter, thinking, "Oh, I'm also dead stone." But when they come in contact with Hare Krishna, transcendent literature, and the association of devotees, we see that they come alive, and then our faith in the mantra grows. The Supreme Personality of Godhead is known as bhāva-grāhī janārdana because He takes only the essence of a devotee’s attitude. If a devotee sincerely surrenders, the Lord, as the Supersoul in everyone’s heart, immediately understands this. Thus even though, externally, a devotee may not render full service, if he is internally sincere and serious the Lord welcomes his service nonetheless. Thus the Lord is known as bhāva-grāhī janārdana because He takes the essence of one’s devotional mentality.
