Sound Speed Action: Movie & TV Reviews

“Obsession beats talent every time”. In today's episode, we review the Netflix movie  "Hustle". Adam Sandler introduces us to the world of the NBA draft in this drama. It may sound like I have mixed feelings about this movie but overall I thoroughly enjoyed it. The movie is shown through the eyes of driven NBA Scout Stanley Sugarman (Sandler) who is relentless with his message of kindness and (by example) pursuing your dreams.

In today's Hype episode, we revisit one of the best action movies in the last 10 years, 2018’s "Mission Impossible - Fallout". Director Christopher McQuarrie takes the character of Ethan Hunt and the Mission Impossible franchise to new heights (figuratively and literally). The team is back including Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Ferguson, Ving Rhames and Alec Baldwin. Newcomers Angela Bassett and Henry Cavill inject some great new energy into this installment too. From the heart-pounding music to the insane death-defying stunts to a thrilling story that balances the stakes with the thrills - there is not a frame or note of this film that is wasted. “Mission Impossible - Fallout” shows off in a good way by bringing out the best of all parts of movie-making magic.

In today's episode, we review action Director Michael Bay’s latest movie "Ambulance". This film is a remake of a Danish movie from 2005 of the same name. The cast includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Eiza González. DRONES! DRONES! DRONES! Did I mention this movie has a lot of awesome drone footage in it? While this might be one of Michael Bay’s smaller movies budget-wise the energy in Michael Bay films (including this one) is always explosive. He last minute with no prep adds a scene in the LA river with 2 helicopters that secured at the last minute. Why? Because he can!

In today's episode, we review the movie "Everything Everywhere All at Once ". Directing duo Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert follow up from their 2016 movie “Swiss Army Man” with this original tale. The cast includes Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan (Short Round from “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom), Stephanie Hsu and Jamie Lee Curtis. If you are thinking that the film industry has run out of ideas with an endless onslaught of remakes, sequels, prequels and adaptations - this mind spin of a film will put that concern to rest. This team behind this movie inspires by pulling off something remarkable with (relatively) limited resources.

Kenneth Branagh has to be one of todays most active filmmakers. Whether it’s writing and directing the Oscar-winning movie “Belfast” to adapting movies for Disney (“Artemis Fowl”, “Cinderella”, “Thor”), Paramount (“Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and acting in too many movies to count (including the upcoming Christopher Nolan movie “Oppenheimer”), the man knows how to stay busy. Today’s episode is about Branagh’s 2nd time directing and acting in an Agatha Christie/Hercules Poirot adaptation “Death on the Nile”. "Death on the Nile" is streaming now on Hulu and HBO Max.
