SLOPE114 - AreYouTruly (Andrew Emil Dreamix)

This is a remix I did for two dear friends in The Bay Area. The husband and wife combo of Dmitri Bronson and Elise Gargalikis, aka SLOPE 114, never ceases to impress with their modular emotive electronic operatics.

Making records, videos, shows, or events, Bronson and Gargalikis do it LIVE with their arsenal of early drum machines, obscure synthetic polyphony, and the angelic aria of Gargalikis' powerful voice.

Claude Debussy | La Mer (Très Lent—RèVision à Animez)

A monumental artist of the early 20th Century, Claude Debussy is universally regarded as the first Impressionist composer. His groundbreaking work ultimately guided much of the musical evangelism of the transfigurative French Impressionism movement. His music was a direct reaction against the previous German musical traditions of form and harmony.

Debussy's influential musical metaphor, La Mer, reaches far and wide, shaping the works from a diverse offering of artists, including Luciano Berio's Sinfonia and John Williams score to JAWS, to Biosphere's ambient effort Shenzhou, as well as The Seduction Of Claude Debussy by Trevor Horn's iconic group, The Art Of Noise, and most recently, John Luther Adams' 2014 Pulitzer Prize-winning work, Become Ocean.

For my Change Request RèVision of this significant artist—whose influence on my own musical language has been immeasurable—I choose to just concentrate on my favorite part of this piece, the first symphonic sketch "De l'aube à midi sur la mer" - Très Lent - Animez Peu à Peu to La Mer.

Employing an international ensemble—Germany, Holland, England, the United States, and even Budapest—of acclaimed software brands, whose award-winning instruments and effects are some of the most prestigious industry-wide, I wanted to ensure that the languid and dream-like polyphony of this ubiquitous masterpiece was preserved.

The Tom Tom Club | Wordy Rappinghood (Change Request ReVision)

The first song recorded by pair of Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz aka The Tom Tom Club released “Wordy Rappinghood” as the lead single from their self-titled album, 1981’s Tom Tom Club.

As the former drummer and bass player of Talking Heads, Weymouth and Frantz continued to carry the post-disco torch that they helped popularize as they, along with David Byrne, galvanized the Downtown Sound of New York’s early eighties scene, centered around the iconic subcultural epicenter, Danceteria.

Resident DJ Mark Kamins would hold court at this seminal Manhattan institution where the cross-pollination of Disco, Post-Disco, Punk, New Wave, Industrial, Boogie, and Art Rock groups like Talking Heads would emerge alongside, Madonna, Jellybean Benitez, LL Cool J, The Beastie Boys, Arthur Russell, and Keith Haring would hang out during their most prolific years.

This leading track from the group was released only a few months after Blondie's "Rapture," which was the first big hit to feature a rap part from a rock-focused group. Heavily embraced by the burgeoning NYC hip-hop community, but distinctively different from the hip-hop of the era that featured mostly sampled breaks, both of these female vocal-driven earworms featuring original music with a dance floor focus.

Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz had bought a house in Nassau, Bahamas, next door to Chris Blackwell, owner of Island Records, and they recorded this song at the Compass Point Studios. Co-written with a 21-year old keyboardist name Steven Stanley, this post-disco classic features Monte Browne on bass, who had a long tenure with the disco all-star outfit, T-Connection.

Using part of a traditional Moroccan children's song and game, "A Ram Sam Sam", “Wordy Rappinghood” is literally just that, a long extended play on words, rhymes, featuring multiple languages all wrapped up as a metaphorical rhetorical question about the dangers and weaponizing nature of language.

Toro y Moi | Rose Quartz (Change Request Dreamix)

“Rose Quartz” is the fourth single off of his third studio album, 2013’s “Anything in Return”, Chaz Bundick aka Toro y Moi released this “more accessible and poppy" album on his own Carpark Records imprint.

Recorded and mixed at San Francisco’s Different Fur Studios, Bundick shoots for a bigger sounding long-play effort, as he addresses romantic turmoil and the constant counterpoint of relationship dissonance brought on by life on the road.
