Original Song: I Remember What I AM
Singer-Songwriter: Shavon
I am really close to another full album release. All the songs for the new album Throwing Paint are already finished, and the videos for them have been released. The album drops Friday on all streaming platforms.
My focus hasn’t been on promotion for these new projects, but really just on creation itself. I had a very long pause that I’m going to talk about in an upcoming video, but things are flowing back into place.
I have already started working on a brand-new project. It’s very Nordic, Viking, drum-inspired, and one song and video I’ve already dropped on YouTube and here on 3Speak is called Wheel Inside.
This song here is the next piece in the new collection of tracks I’m working on. It is called I Remember What I Am, and this one really became something special for me. The lyrics were in pieces for a few days, and after finding the right instrumental, I nearly freestyled the entire bridge section. It felt like something else was speaking through me during the first rough vocal take. It hit me hard—like a weight in my chest, how powerful these realizations of myself were, and truly what I was becoming after such a large collapse in momentum.
I think the message of this song will resonate with many people right now, in this ever-changing world where we wake up each day feeling like we’re living in the Twilight Zone.
I really appreciate you listening to my songs here, and I hope you’ll look out for my video this Friday where I talk about the new album release, these new tracks I’m working on, and my latest work with AI-generated images, and how much fun I’m having with it.
I also have another AI-generated video for this song coming mid next week, and I’m really excited about it. It’s like an ancient cinematic warrior battle piece that involves lost tribes, ancient civilizations, and a battle with giants and aliens, yeah, I went there, and I love how it came out.
There’s a final scene where I used an image of my painted face that I animated with a generative A.I. tool that looks so cinematic, like a powerful close-up battle moment inspired by Ivar the Boneless from Vikings. I just love it—raaarrr! so look for that coming mid next week.
For this video, I wanted something with no AI. more of a return to my natural roots, like the hundreds of other songs and videos I’ve done in the past. It’s a more raw performance, showcasing the real captured emotion in the lyrics with my painted face.
I edited the video with high contrast to bring out the darkness around me and really emphasize my tribal, painted warrior face moving through the dark. I also added a tiny-planet morph background of my moving face, which I think adds a really artistic tribal, emotive feel.
This piece has a darker vibe, as it’s about confronting the darkness inside yourself and realizing that it’s just a piece of you. You get to decide. You must face everything, the light and the dark and understand that you are in control. Your choice matters, and you have infinite possibilities.
I Remember What I Am Lyrics
I walked with a name I was given at birth
Carried it close like it measured my worth
Spoke in a voice that was shaped by the room
Echoed the world like a hollowed-out tune
There in the quiet beneath all the sound
Something was waiting, but not to be found
Not in the seeking, not reaching above
But in the breaking of what I once was
There is a pull I can’t deny
It moves through me, it doesn’t lie
No longer asking what is true
It’s rising up from somewhere new
Not the body, not the plan
Not the story, not the name
I was never held by them
Now the veil is wearing thin
I felt it stirring under my skin
Not from outside, but deep within
A widening space I could not contain
Not bound by loss, not shaped by pain
Every moment began to unfold
Not something new, but something old
A living current, silent and wide
Watching through me from the inside
There is no edge, there is no end
No place I stop, no place I bend
What I was taught begins to fall
Not the body, not the plan
Not the story, not the name
I was never held by them
Now the veil is wearing thin
At the first turning, I laid it down
All that I built to keep me bound
What I was holding slipped away
And still I stood, and still I stayed
At the second turning, time grew still
No past to chase, no future to fill
Only the breath, the space between
Where I end and all has been
At the final turning, nothing to hide
No shape to carry, no place to divide
What I was seeking was never apart
It was the rhythm inside of my heart
Not the body, not the plan
Not the story, not the name
I was never held by them
Now the veil is wearing thin
