On this episode of SoundOff, Jams brings in the new year with guest Dr Barry Perlman to discuss his book, Rearview and mental health.
Dr. Perlman returned to NYC after graduating from Yale Medical School. He interned at NYU/ Bellevue Medical Center and completed his residency in psychiatry at the Mount Sinai Medical Center where he remained as a member of the faculty until becoming the Director, Dept. of Psychiatry at Saint Joseph’s Medical Center, Yonkers, NY. He served as president, New York State Psychiatric Association. He was appointed chair, NYS Mental Health Service Council, and member, NY State Hospital Review and Planning Council by Governor George Pataki. His career has incorporated clinical practice, teaching, research, administration and advocacy for persons with serious mental illness and for his profession. In 2021 his memoir, “Rearview: A Psychiatrist Reflects on Practice and Advocacy In a Time of Healthcare System Change,” was published.
