The city has an ongoing crisis of crumbling infrastructure - never clearer than when Calgary’s biggest watermain fractured recently, for the second time in 18 months. Calgary has, according to a report produced in 2020, an infrastructure deficit of nearly $8 billion - that’s work that needs to be done in the next 10 years. This week councillors will consider a proposal to create an “infrastructure improvement fee or levy” to address this deficit. Sounds like a tax.
