City on a Hill: Love Your Enemies
Worship Minister Derick Mickan
Matthew 5:43–48
July 17, 2022
Big Idea:
God’s calling on us is not OUTRAGE, but to ENGAGE the world around us.
John 3:17 [ESV] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him.
Loving your enemies involves a COUNTERINTUITIVE mindset. [vv. 43–45]
Loving your enemies EXPOSES your motives. [vv. 46–47]
Loving your enemies will mean MATURING in love. [v. 48]
Instead of displaying OUTRAGE, try showing love that REDEEMS.
- Begin dialogue with people instead of picking fights.
- Stop posting divisive things on social media.
- This week, specifically show love to someone who has opposed you.
John 13:34–35 [ESV] A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
