Frank Weller shares some favorite memories and encourage SLCC to continue to focus on discipleship, evangelism, and the next generation.

Growing Christians serve God with their strength. A life of service demonstrates that you’ve met Jesus. A life of service demonstrates that you’ve met God’s son.

No matter how you’re wired, you’re studying something. It may be baseball, gardening, or Star Trek, but you’ve got something you’re studying. Study is also essential for healthy faith development as a follower of Jesus. Because of that, SLCC encourages everyone to study God one-to-one in discipling relationships, and together in small groups.

At some point in our faith journey, we all have the desire to go deeper. This can lead to growth, but it can also lead us to disconnect from our faith community. As the “heart” in Scripture is the center of the will, we believe that seeking God with our hearts will allow us to grow deeper, while leading into our commitment to God and to our church!

The book of Acts ends in an unsettling way, and we’re left with the question, “And then what?” The story of the church continued on though, as each new generation of believers took their next steps in faith, on up to today. Paul arrived in Rome and began preaching the gospel in this new setting. No matter the occasion, Paul always seemed to find a way to “proclaim the Kingdom of God and teach about the Lord Jesus Christ.” What kind of a church are we? One that consistently takes the next step, even in the face of uncertainty.

Looking back and our church history AND looking at the life of Paul challenges us to allow God to lead. We need to surrender who we are so God can fully control our lives.

Acts 16 tells us that when the Philippian jailer came to faith in Jesus, his family came with him. Each of the characters in this chapter were on a search, but only the jailer and his household found the answer. That answer was Jesus. What kind of a church are we? One that helps searching people find Jesus.

As God continued to grow his church and it expanded toward “the ends of the earth,” the believers of disparate congregations began to support each other. While the church in Jerusalem was distracted by internal disagreements and theological disputes, the church in Antioch was busy assisting other believers and sending out missionaries. What kind of a church are we? One that is others (outsider)-focused.

Acts 6 tells the story of the church designating servants to care for the needs of the congregation. Following their model, our church also has a cohort of deacons, through whom God has worked to meet the needs of our congregation for years. What kind of a church are we? One that cares for the members of our congregation.

At his ascension, Jesus told his followers that they would be his witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. This message mirrors the Great Commission, as well as the outline of what God did in the book of Acts. What kind of a church are we? One that participates in God’s mission to the ends of the earth.
