Am I living with a thankful spirit?

Heb. 13:15

1. Why should we be thankful?

- sacrifice with your life and your lips

- continual praise

Because of what Jesus has done

- victory over sin and death

Rom. 6:17;col. 1:12

- inheritance

2. How can I be thankful? Eph. 5:18-20, col. 3:16

- be filled with the spirit

- make the word of God your dwelling place

3. What should we be thankful for? Rom. 1:8; 1 Cor. 1:4; phil. 1:3

- those around us, everyone

4. Why are we not thankful? Rom. 1:21

- we are selfish sinners

~We need to sound the alarm and wake up!~

1. Jonah fell asleep to His sovereign God.

-Jonah fell asleep to the will of God.

-Jonah fell asleep to the work of God.

-Jonah fell asleep to the wonder of his God.

2. Jonah fell asleep to his own sinful heart.

-Jonah fell asleep to the conflict of his sinful heart.

-Jonah fell asleep to the need to confess his sinful heart.

-Jonah fell asleep to the consequences of his sinful heart.

3. Jonah fell asleep to the lost souls around him(Nineveh, Mariners).

-Jonah fell asleep because he forgot to care for people.

-Jonah fell asleep because his lost communication with people.

-Jonah fell asleep because he forgot his conduct with people.

- stop it

- transformed by the renewing of your mind

5. We can be discerning

- that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God

1. Man of Confidence

a. Trust in the promises of God

b. See the past performances of God

2. Man of Commitment

a. Duty- Romans 12:1-2

b. Devotion

3. Man of Courage

a. Stand up

b. Speak up

4. Man of Consistency

a. Don't let age be a factor

b. Make no excuses

What does it take to tune out TV?

1. It takes an attitude of surrender

"I will see no wicked thing before my eyes."

a. Surrender your eyes. job. 31:1; Ps, 119:37; Is. 33:15

b . Surrender your mind. 2 Cor. 10:5; Ez. 11:5; Ps. 19:14; Phil. 4:8

2. It takes an aversion to sin.

"I hate the work of them that turn aside."

a. The Love of God demands it. Ps. 97:10; Pr. 8:13; Amos 5:1; Rom. 12:9

b. The Law of God demands it. Ps. 119:104; 113, 128, 163

3. It takes an adoption of separation.

"It shall not cleave to me."

a. Separation from sin. 2 Cor. 6:17; 7:1; Is. 52:11; Rom. 16:19
