In celebration of ANA’s National Nurses Week, we asked 4 of our nurse leaders at SNHU to join a roundtable discussion about the role nurses play in transforming healthcare.

Featuring Lisa Urban, associate chief nursing administrator; Margaret Moriarty-Litz, chief nursing administrator; and associate deans Stacey Rosenberg and Debra M.G. Murray, the discussion offers insights on everything from how nurses are portrayed in the media to the future of nursing education.

With the US Bureau of Labor Statistics projecting 15% growth in nursing jobs through 2026 – and the evolving role of technology in the way we give and receive care – nurse leaders are more sought after than ever. All it takes is a new generation willing to take the call.

“As a new nurse you probably have some reservations: am I qualified to do that next job, am I qualified to take that next step in education?” said Lisa Urban. “What I know about nurses now is we can do anything we set our minds to. Set some goals and just go for it. You have all the skills you need to be successful.”

Dave Hoffman, senior director of community engagement for the Celtics, chats with SNHU professor Doug Blais about doing work that matters – and shares his insights on what it takes to succeed in the sports industry.

A Brookline, Massachusetts, native, Hoffman has always been a Celtics super-fan – a self-professed “bleed greener.” But even he never could have imagined he’d be a major player for his favorite team in the league.

Today, he and the Celtics are leveling the field for kids and families across New England. Notably, he helped spearhead the game-changing Playbook Initiative – a student-created document designed to raise awareness on daily discrimination and bias and teach the tools needed to safely intervene as an empowered bystander.

Calling upon his personal experiences, Hoffman explores how his unique skill set helped him land his dream gig, offers advice for up-and-comers looking to break into the sports industry and promotes volunteer work as a tool to help students forge their career path.

In a recent conversation with Southern New Hampshire University, Towers spoke about how licensing affords MLS the luxury to hire the right manufacturer for each product. And because “our clubs have extremely different personalities,” licensing allows for the variety of creative executions the league needs.

Shawn Sullivan knew he wanted to work in sports when he was in college. But the letters and phone calls to the big teams in Boston weren’t being returned. His Southern New Hampshire University professor gave him the best advice: “Stay persistent.” That instructor discovered the Boston Garden arena was seeking tour guides – not exactly the type of job Sullivan was imagining, but it was a start.

His instructor couldn’t have been more right. One Friday night, Sullivan’s tour group included the Boston Celtics’ marketing department. One manager recognized his name right away: Those phone calls certainly hadn’t gone unnoticed. She mentioned an internship had opened up at the last minute, allowing Sullivan the opportunity to put his sport management knowledge to use.

Sullivan ’95 is now the chief marketing officer with the Boston Celtics. Hear more about his story, his advice for today’s college students and how his sport management degree from SNHU set him up for success.

When Dimitrios Efstathiou was in law school, he knew he wanted to work in sports. But after completing his internship with Major League Soccer in 2003, he found no full-time opportunities there and had to move on. Fast-forward to 2011: The connections Dimitrios made and nurtured from that internship led him back to MLS. Now, as the league’s vice president of business and legal affairs, he handles strategic partnerships and special projects from the commissioner’s office.
