This week’s episode is Part I of an interview with Elizabeth Melton of True Growth Consulting. Elizabeth began her career in field marketing and worked in the world of natural foods. Liz loved her work, but felt drawn to do something more. Earlier this year, she started her business. At True Growth, Elizabeth works with clients to develop strategies, a network, and an action plan for true success. Starting a business isn’t easy, but Elizabeth feels that learning to manage rejection and being vulnerable is key. And to those who want to start a business or want to take a risk in their personal or professional lives but aren’t quite ready, Elizabeth says to invest in yourself in any way possible. Read books, get resume help, write a business plan. Be resourceful.

Darrell Lynn has been around the world and back, literally. And he’s made that trip more than once. In 2018, Darrell saw an opportunity. He decided to purchase and renovate an old shirt and box factory close to downtown Columbia. The Factory of Columbia will be a retail destination featuring high-end home furnishings, incredible antiques, and paintings. Before I interviewed Darrell, I had the opportunity to walk through the building, and it is amazing. The restoration process is enhancing the integrity of the building. Beyond talking about the factory, we dove into Darrell’s career at Rader Companies, Inc. and talked about his current companies: Vintique, Blink Home, Oil Portraits, Leather Books, and Hero Portraits. Several of these will be featured at the Factory at Columbia. The space is going to be unlike anything Columbia has seen, and they have already started announcing new tenants. Ryan Turbeville is the owner of Side Door Strategies, an urban real estate development and investment company, and the Director of Innovation for the Ashton Real Estate Group of RE/MAX Advantage, the number one real estate team in Tennessee and the number one RE/MAX team in the world. Ryan specializes in infill development, investments, zoning and land use policy, new construction and renovations, and sell-side marketing. He practices in both residential and commercial real estate.

Before entering the real estate world, Ryan was a political operative. It was there that he honed his negotiation, public relations, research, and marketing skills while co-authoring several publications.
