Our text records perhaps the last public discourse of Jesus before his crucifixion. His words are meant to affect us as well, and they will if we allow them. --When your soul is troubled, think of the personal pain Christ endured for your salvation and peace, then remember that now, as an object of redemption, he continues to lavish that same self-sacrificing care upon you.

John 13:1-17 invites us to see Jesus' intimate teaching about love by becoming the Lord of the towel, fully conscious of his divine supremacy! In this act, Jesus says to us that if we want to be His servants if we're going to grow in this authentic aspect of discipleship if that is what we really desire, we must allow our hearts to deepen in love, we must be willing to wash one another's feet.

This account occupies a very serious place in Luke's Gospel because it is Jesus' last personal encounter before he arrives in Jerusalem and the events leading to his death. We see here Zacchaeus seeking Jesus and Jesus seeking Zacchaeus.--The sovereignty of God is at work here. Jesus comes to the lost as a friend. He is a friend of tax collectors and sinners. Like the rich young ruler, Zacchaeus has it all, but his salvation helps us see what is possible with God.--Jesus evidently has a soft spot for sinners like Zacchaeus-

It is here that Jesus appears and directs His disciples to cast their net on the right side of the boat. When they return to shore, the disciples find that Jesus has prepared fish and bread for their breakfast.--Jesus meets the needs of His disciples, even when the catch of fish is not necessary for their mission. Jesus' response shows us that in our concern for others, we are not to judge them but rather are to give each of our brothers and sisters the freedom and encouragement to be responsive to Jesus as Lord.

Because of our limited view of life, when we see the chaos in our world, we are tempted to react as if God is not in control, has stopped caring, or cannot be trusted. --We see this truth unfolding in Lazarus' demise when Jesus failed to come to see his friend and perhaps heal him from his sickness. From the human perspective, it appears as though Jesus does not care when He visits the family on the fourth day of Lazarus' death. The day when the mourning ritual reaches its highest point because the body is decaying, and there is no more hope. --However, something very unusual will bring Christ glory and joy to the family-
