Over the summer we’ve looked at a number of Psalms that have highlighted everything from our identity in God’s presence to how the psalmist relates to human suffering in a variety of ways. The promise of a harvest, of God's fruitfulness made manifest is a familiar theme in the Psalms but it also finds expression in the Gospels. In this message, the question of “who gets sent out into the harvest?” finds an answer in a Samaritan woman Jesus meets at a well.

Many times, the ways of God don’t make sense to us. Bad things happen to good people; good things happen to bad people. The Psalms are filled with questions for God, even complaints against God because of this. There is so much in life that we don’t fully understand. We might even feel that God is not treating us fairly. So what do we do? How do we find hope? Where do we find “perseverance"?

How do we come up with prayers that express our heart ache too God in a way where we feel heard and accepted? Psalm 22 takes us to that incredibly difficult but also incredibly powerful place where we find the words to express our grief, disappointment and even anger in ways that help us to grow spiritually but also emotionally.
