In this installment of Malachi, Pastor Eric walks us through the strong language of the 2nd chapter. We read of the covenant, the commandment, the commission, and the complaint. Pastor Eric offers us important reminders in our believer's walk: if we don't stop the sin cycle, we are likely to repeat the sin; we should put God first in ALL things and make it a priority to uphold His Word (see verses on Phineas). Pastor Eric shows us how the priests understood everything that went into worshiping God and the sacrifices to Him, from the attitude to the table, food, and animals. Yet they were profaning God's name and offering Him stolen, sick and lame sacrifices. Rather than living to the Lord, they, like many believers, were looking for a loophole. Most modern believers relegate the sacrificial system and Levitical Laws to the Old Testament, seeing no relevance in them to our walk with Christ. As Pastor Eric points out, however, we should allow the typology of the sacrifical system to impact our walk as those sacrifices pointed to Christ. Questions permeate the book of Malachi, revealing to us that God expects the best from us—our first fruits—and certainly not defiled and worthless fruit. God gave us HIS very best, His firstborn. In this installment of Malachi, Pastor Eric shows us how the uncircumcised hearts and "moldy-bread" sacrifices of the Israelites were unacceptable to God. In this conclusion to the "View from the foot of the Cross" series, Pastor Eric lists who we are in Christ: great, victorious, strong, sanctified, justified, one of many, and servants of the Lord. As inheritors of the promise, we can't lose our seat, our inheritance or our salvation. Christ poured out His life for you and for me. Nothing else needs to be done. It is finished. Pastor Eric begins this study on Malachi, asking the question, "What do we look for in spiritual leadership?" He walks us through Scripture to reveal God's expectations of a leader, which, when boiled down to its basic element, is someone you want to follow. The priests during Malachi's time, however, were not breeding followers but rather laziness.
