Having revealed Himself to the Samaritan woman and spoken of doing the Father's will as His spiritual nourishment (John 4:34), Jesus now directs His followers to "lift up" their eyes and behold fields already white for harvest. This sermon explores Christ's teaching that the harvest belongs to God and that believers are privileged to participate in a work that began long before them. The disciples were entering labor prepared by others—the prophets, John the Baptist, the testimony of Scripture, and even the witness of the Samaritan woman. In the same way, Christians today are called to faithfully sow, water, pray, and reap, trusting God to bring the increase. The passage also challenges us to see people as Jesus sees them. The Samaritans, often despised and overlooked, were standing before the disciples as evidence that God's saving purposes extend far beyond human expectations and prejudices. Ultimately, this text points us to Christ Himself—the perfect Servant who came to do the Father's will, finish the Father's work, and secure eternal life for His people through His death and resurrection.
